2006 dakota no move

Buddy at work was driving in the other day and heard a bang, had to keep driving since he was in a construction zone finally pulled to the side and now it won't move starts idled and revs but no movement in any gear, any ideas?

It's a 42re auto tranny behind a 3.7. Figured peeps might now since its also a jeep tranny

He says he doesn't see leaking but its in his driveway now, never checked before he got towed might have emptied on the road.......mines done that before

42re = fail. Best bet, find a JY trans, maybe step up to a 46re.
I know its a different vehicle, but when my mom's 96 taurus trans started to go, there as no leaks or anything. There were pieces of metal on the magnet of the pan tho.
Maybe, pull the trans pan and see whats up?
