2000 xj High idle

NAXJA Forum User
So after new rings and pistons, timing chain it wouldn't start I didn't realize that the oil drive and cam sensor needed to be reset so went through procedure for doing so and it fired up but I have a issue with high idle 2000-3000+ rpms . No vac leaks all sensors on tb have been replaced and test in range my question is could the oil drive be off a tooth or so to cause this and yes I went through the procedure to TDC it but is it possible I went a little far or not far enough it was just me didn't have anyone to help me . Any words of wisdom to help would be appreciated

Vacuum leaks and/or intake manifold leaks will likely result in a high idle.

Reboot the PCM, old stored PCM data and a new IAC may be the cause of the high idle.

This procedure will erase the 1996-2001 “Adaptive Memory” stored inside the PCM and allow a new “Adaptive Memory” to be developed.

After performing this procedure the 1996-2001 PCM will re-learn and store into Adaptive Memory your engines performance characteristics.

Perform these steps exactly as they are written, in the order they are written. This will cause the adaptive memory in the PCM to be erased and cause the PCM to go into Fast Learn Mode adaptive mode.

Disconnect the POSITIVE battery Terminal and touch it to ground ( not the battery negative terminal ) for 30 seconds. The engine block or the A/C compressor pump will work as a ground. (This is to discharge the PCM capacitors, which maintain the Adaptive Memory).

Reconnect the Battery Cable
Turn Ignition Switch to the “On” position but DO NOT start the engine
Turn Headlight “On”
Turn Headlights “Off”
Turn Ignition Key “Off”

The PCM Adaptive memory has now been flashed, or erased from the PCM.

When you start the engine it will be running off a set of pre-programmed tables that come with the PCM from the factory.

When you get the engine up to operating temperature the PCM will start to collect data for the “Adaptive Memory”.

Already did all those things as mentioned forgot to mention the resetting of the computer

All are jeep parts they all test good and working properly the only codes the odb reader is picking up is high voltage to speed sensor and fuel pump back to my original question about the oil drive is that possible ? And I appreciate your input

The dist drive gear doesn't matter, but the timing chain and TDC does.
