2000 Jeep cherokee exhaust

I doubt it as the pre cats would be blocking access to the underside manifold bolts.

In the thread below, on page three, mmag1982 described how difficult is was to install the Flow Daddy header in place, without removing the mini-cats.
http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1065072

My question was aimed at him since he was the one that did the install.
He said is was very difficult to access the bolts, since he could not see them.
I value actual experience over speculation.

Yeah, because no one else installed a header in an XJ with precats. I'm not speculating.

mmag also mentioned nothing about the precats in his header install nor anywhere else in the thread. He is also in Egypt, so I doubt he has precats.
It was 1 hr of using only my sense of touch as the intake manifold completely blocked the view
The intake manifold was his problem because he was working on top of the vehicle to get to the bolts beneath it.

Another tip is to remove the airbox and then you can use a 14mm socket with 2 long extensions working from above.

You may be right about not having mini-cats in Egypt (do you know for sure?) but wrong about anyone wanting to install headers on an XJ with mini-cats.
-Rusty sell the Flow Daddy for use with mini-cats.

-Rugged Ridge sells 2001 headers for mini-cats.

Borla sells them too.

Hmmm, if no one installs them, any speculation why are they offered for sale? Most manufacturers only produce items they hope to sell.

Look, all I asked for was information from someone who I thought had installed headers in a mini-cat XJ, not an argument.
Sorry this offends you. I mistakenly took this forum as a source of information. Maybe being RED isn't worth it.

guys,

the mini cats are part of the down pipe in 2000+ models. you can see it in your pic, the part before the 2 oval shaped flanges are your headers ( 2 piece ) and the tree shaped thing is the down pipe. you have mini cats on them, I dont, I just have the twin downpipe
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lwade/s...7627248416910/

so the way i see it the header has nothing to with it for 2000+ models.

As for the job itself there are 2 parts, dismantling and putting everything back together. In both cases the nightmare are those dreadful 4 bolts that hold both the intake and exhaust manifolds together.

Here are your options from my experience:

as gradon said, for dismantling you can reach with the tips of your fingers from the side of the intake manifold to seat a 14mm socket, you will then need a cv joint adapter on the socket and an extension. Thats how i did it. I didnt remove the downpipe. you'll swear a lot, but it can be done. and without removing the downpipe.

The real nightmare started when i had to install everything and found that the collectors on the flowdaddy are huge compared to the silly tree branch shaped oem manifold. I could not squeeze a finger between the header and the intake.

So I removed the down pipe, and spent 1 hr under the car with an open 14 mm wrench ( no way any socket will fit now ). and used a tube as an extension for the wrench.

One hell of a job, specially trying to seat the bolts in their threads using half a finger from underneath the car.

The final part of the nightmare was to torque down the flanges between the downpipe and the header, again zero clearance. I had to do it from the top of the car with one knee over the front fender and another on the front wheel:) using 2 open wrenches.

As for the flowdaddy header, Its very well built, fit perfectly, and came with everything needed. It performed exactly as advertised, big improvement in torque below 3000rpm with a slight improvemnt in fuel consumption and mid throttle rpm completely eliminated.

Its called sarcasm. I have installed a header on an XJ with mini cats and I know what it entails, you should have got that from the speculating part. Obviously you think I am talking out of my ass. You also seem to think that mag is the only one that installed a header on a vehicle with precats. I still haven't seen where he had a problem installing the header with his invisible minicats.

Go have a whinekein over it. I've been giving you information all along.

i have a Banks exhaust manifold waiting to go on my 2000 XJ and those mini cats are the reason i haven't got the gumption to go out and put them on. That and the fact that studs are so rusty you can barely even tell there's threads on them

This is the age old question. Really depends on what you are looking for. Lots of guys just want a jeep that sounds really good and loud. (no muffler or run a flowmaster). I run a magnaflow on my jetta and I love it. Its not loud, but it just sounds good. I recently had a Dymoax bullet on my jeep with all 2.5" piping and a 2.5" hi flow cat. Sounding good, but got tired of the raspy sound at times. I recently had a flowmaster super 10 (single chamber) muffler installed and I gotta admit...I love it. My jeep feels the same as it did with the dynomax, but now It just sounds deeper and better. No real back fire sounds. On my jeep, I like it to be loud.

Magnaflow is a great exhaust company, so is gibson, mbrp, and borla...If I had some dough just to throw at my jeeps exhaust... It would be a full SS 2.5" setup with an MBRP muffler or Borla muffler all mandrel bent piping and tucked up really nicely.
