Hey any one know about how much a top end gasket kit cost's.and also will a holley carb on a edelbrock torquer2 intake make much difference with this engine?
Is it too late to do all those mods to a 3.1/3.4L block instead? The 3.1/3.4s are the latter versions of the 2.8L and are a superior engine in terms of power and reliability (much better oiling passages) and will go in with minimal hassle if you stick with the carb. Run a search on "3.4L swap" and you should find all sorts of good info.
Jeep on!

I can vouch for the previous comment. dont waste your money. go with the updated 3.4 out of a camaro and run your holley 390cfm and edelbrock intake on that. Maybe even some edelbrock headers like i did. You'll love the new found PP/TQ. Check out this link for helpful info on your swap:
Cool guys thanks for the info im new to any xj under 1988 and im getting this 86 2 door for 300 bux becouse it doesnt run something about head gasket being blown oh well im sure i will be on here with more questions later.
Friend of mine did a 3.4L in his little 80's toyota pu truck that had been converted to a tow truck, that little sob was a rocket with the holley 650 and high riser and pistons and cam and head work. but even before he built the engine out it was no slouch in it's stock form...
