2.5L 4 Cyl question

Is the 2.5L 4 cyl they used in YJ's and XJ's the same engine they used in Dodge Shadows and later bodied cars?

I'm wondering about bolt-on performance for a 92 Dodge Shadow and am coming up pretty short on parts specific to that vehicle. I'm hoping I can adapt and use performance parts designed for 4cyl jeeps...

Nope, its an overhead cam engine. Nothing in common with the Jeep engines. However, from the performance standpoint, they are more friendly than the Jeep engine. Mopar performance has all kinds of stuff for them. Turbo version putting out over 300hp.

Good to know, but I must point out that aside from the turbo kits, which are just their stock factory turbo setups, they have very little for sale. That's why I was hoping the engines might be compatible. As it stands, it looks like I will be adapting other stuff to it or custom building things, or just screwing it altogether...

The 04 and 05 TJ's use the dodge engines now and this is the last year for the 4.0L in any of them according to one of the engineers I talked to at campjeep couple weeks ago. The original 2.5L is a 4.0 with two cylinders chopped off, alot of the parts are interchangeble between the 2.5 and 4.0.

You could try these guys

Forward Motion

We ordered some stuff from them for our 4-cyl. Modified (dirt track). We only ran the 2.2L set-up for one season though, as we had trouble keeping the lower end together.
