No, I'm not asking for a copy! But, if anyone has one, I'd like to know just how to remove the latch assembly from the driver's front door (four-door,) as this power lock is giving me fits!

(It's for a friend of my wife's at work. Yes, she's cute. Yes, she's married. And so am I. Besides, it's paying work...)

I've gone over the rest of the thing (power locks) and cleaned and lubed everything I can get to, but I can't figure out how to get the latch out.

Also, she's got a V6 in there and needs a new fan clutch. It's that goophy "threaded hub" that Ford decided to start using to get us really cranked off. Do you have to use the "special Ford fan clutch wrench" for that, or can you use a crescent or an end wrench that fits the hex?

Is it any wonder I don't like to work on Fords?:firedevil

no clue on the door latch, but the fan clutch can be removed with general tools IF you can span two of the pulley bolts to keep it from turning AND fit a wrench in there simultaneously. Just make sure you're standing on your head and whisteling Greensleeves or it won't ever come off!

I'd already figured something like that - I just don't want to buy a tool that I'm probably going to use precisely once. I've got plenty of wrenches, and I've got some square bar stock that I use just for keeping multi-screw pullys from turning (like doing fan clutches on other cars. 1/4" square section, about two feet long.)

I'm honestly not averse to buying tools - just ask my wife! - but I don't like having to buy something I'll probably never use again. That's just stupid...

Meanwhile, if anyone can give with removing the door latch mech, I'd still appreciate it. I'll have the truck through to-morrow or Thursday (26 or 27MAR,) so I've got time. The latch mech is the only thing I haven't thoroughly checked out, and I think it might be productive to clean the thing out, inspect, and lightly lubricate. I just want to do a good job, and I can't really do that from inside the door...
