1998 Street Jeep

Long story short, I gave away my MJ and gained an XJ.

Basically, a friend gave it to me as he was given a Jeep, and I gave away my MJ.

History: Buddy crashed his Jeep. Bought this one the next day. Ended up fixing his crashed Jeep, so he only had this for a month.
Come to find out, the guy he bought it from got it from the Denver auction. Flipped it.

Decent condition. Had a fellow member help me out and do some repairs.

185k. auto. 231.


I call it Street Jeep.

Its never going to be lifted. It'll be a winter beater/driver for my wife and I. She likes the blacked out look, so that's what I'm going for.

Inside is really clean, outside is beaten. A/C works. Decent aftermarket stereo. Heater is hot.

This is after about 10 hours of buffing, sanding, painting... blah blah blah.



For some reason, there was black spray paint randomly on half the car. Its not perfect, but here's the before and after. Screw this crap. :flamemad:

Finally, a question. Does the RPMs look right for the speed?

So far. Love them. Haven't had anyone flash me and I've had them for a few nights.
Also, I pointed them downward.

This is where the LED headlights can get you in trouble.

The red circles are area where it's showing that your headlights are putting lumens to. Problem is, you really shouldn't see much of anything above the red horizontal line. If an LEO so chooses, they can pull you over for essentially misdirected light, as it can/will "blind oncoming drivers".

It's what I go my ticket for, and I made sure he wrote down it and the other one he cited's statute :laugh:

Most places probably won't care, but all it takes it one.

Just an FYI, and the reason I'm not a vendor for anything relating to required DOT regulated equipment.

Saw a "Check Gauges" light tonight and saw that the alternator wasn't putting anything out.

Got home. Turned it off, then on, and it was working again.

BUT, I would assume this might mean the alternator is going bad?

Yup, worn out/sticky brushes will do that.

I think the problem you will run into is that when you point them down enough as to not blind oncoming traffic, you will not be doing yourself any favors either. I am sure the $1,000 LEDs do not make sense for this vehicle. I would just go with an upgraded H4 harness and Cibies.

Replaced the alternator today.

$100 from autozone.

Think my budget is tapped for now. Hopefully this thing will be a good DD for a while.

So I was running a VBS at my church and a parent showed up holding these in his hand.

He works for truck lite. They're pretty awesome.

Oh. And my friend gave me some free ski racks.

Gave the AC a little recharge with some stop leak stuff.

It was at about 20 PSI I refilled it to about 40 PSI.

Hopefully it will stay full.

So took the jeep to camp with me and 90 students up at YMCA Estes Park.

Started leaking really bad on day 2 from the upper hose.

Crossed my fingers that it would hold until I got home.

Changed it out today. $20. No leaks.

Also painted the hood. It's not perfect but it's much better.

I don't really want my '98 Eclipse any more so I'm planning on selling it and getting a DD street Jeep as well, either a '98-'01 XJ or '99-'04 WJ.

Had the multifunction switch replaced today.

I actually tried to do it the other day, but gosh dang it was hot and I got too frustrated.

Soooooo, $85 later, my blinkers work again.

Got a roof rack from a member here for $50.

Looks custom made? With aftermarket mounts?

I'm not really sure, however, its strong enough to hold me up there. It'll be nice to strap things to.

I need to figure out how to mount the spare up there.
Constantly finding myself needing more room in the Jeep.
Any suggestions?

Just so I can keep record...

Jeep went in for Brakes yesterday. HATE not having a Garage.

$350 later. New front everything. Cleaned/adjusted rear. Brake fluid flush.
