1998 jeep cherokee xj Fuel issue.

Good morning all,

I have a 1998 jeep cherokee sport with a fuel issue Im hoping someone can shed some light on. I am only getting 10 gallons of fuel at the pump when my gas light comes on. Ill fill up, my gauge will read almost full but when I drive a few times it drops drastically. I am curious what this could be. Does this sound like a fuel pump issue? Is my tank possibly full of garbage keeping me from getting a full 20 gallons? any help is welcome as I am stumped.

Sounds like the sender is reading incorrectly.

Is that as simple as replacing the sending unit or is it replacing the whole fuel pump?
