I need people's opinons on this one. My friend recently bought a new truck and is selling his 92 ford escort. This car is cherry. Its seriously perfect. No interior flaws, or exterior flaws. Other than a few dings it looks new off the show room. Under the hood everything looks brand new even the origional battery blanket. I don't usually see too many escorts treated this well. I think its got 100,000 miles on it and it only has one problem im aware of. He says when it gets warm, it doesnt wanna shift to the 4th gear(auto tranny). Could this more than likely be low fluid? I talked him down to selling to me for $350 bucks. Do you guys think its a good deal?

Dude. It's an Escort. Offer him a few 6ers of his favorite brew.

My uncle bought a couple Escorts before he retired. He drove alot and got paid mileage. He called them disposable cars because he would buy used ones and drove them until they died. The mileage money always paid for them. He over 200,000 out of the first two. The third one he had when he retired, it had 136,000 when he sold it. The one he got over 200k out of were 5-speeds though.

Hahaha yess I agree it's an escort, and I would offer him a few sixes of his choice... but im only 18. When I do get a hold of sixes I usually keep em for myself.

If it is in that good a shape, considering the price of gas I'd pick it up for $350.

If it were the 5 speed, I would jump on it. The AT problem might be a bit sketchy - repairing that could cost more than the car is worth.

Look into the tranny thing a little closer before you decide

A buddy of mine drove his grand dad's 92 escort coupe AT untill he got his own truck. He beat the living CRAP out of that little car and it just kept on tickin. Drove it for a good 4-5 months with a bad t-stat in it (always running on the cold side), WOT 100% of the time (Cold or Hot engine, didn't matter), tie-rods decided to let go while running 70mph on the highway, ran it at 70mph on the highway practically everytime there was a tailwind and he was going downhill. I didn't think it would last a week. Its still running to this day. The tranny shifted rough and felt like it was about ready to give up, but so far it hasn't. For $350, i'd go for it. Even if the tranny does die, if it gives you no problems for a month or two, with gas prices today, you can make that $350 up in gas easily!

With the 1.9L engine, that thing will go for ever, just make sure you repalce the timing belt if he hasnt.

I would get 35mpg in the city driving the piss out of it, and got around 50mpg on a trip to San Diego once.

Good vehicle if you dont expect too much from it.

around here the junkyards won't take escorts, tempos or older Taurus's because they have so many that they can't get rid of all the parts.

Personally I would walk away if he offered me 10 bucks to take it off his hands. Oh and I am dead serious! There has never been a bigger pile ever made....well ok maybe a Plymouth Valarie and a Chevy Vega but the Escort is a very close third.

Yeh i'm gonna pick it up this wednesday. I'm excited. It'll save me gas and i'll have a beater to drive the living crap out of AND, dirt can use it motocross style.

That's better. :D

Hey guys.. heres and update. So i picked it up wedndesday. I talked him down again to 300.00. I wrote a check for $300.07 just to be stupid. Haha.. So far I can't get the tranny todo mess up or anything. So it seems like I just bought a perfect car. Still debating whether to keep it or sell it.

My ex-g/f had a 95 Ford escort with a 1.8L I4 and 5speed .........

That car ran great till after we broke-up mainly cause I would do all the oil changes ect.........

She got about 35mpg outta that car and it lasted till around 230K miles she didnt change the oil or check it and it threw a rod
