I have 2 Jeeps and only room for one of them. The XJ lost the coin-toss.
I put a ton of time and $$ into this rig last winter and drove it to Moab in May. I built this to be a very reliable wheeling rig that will get me to any trail I want and get me home afterwards, as well as regular use around town. I got it from the 2nd owner who was meticulous about maintenance and I have a 2” thick folder of receipts to prove it. Vehicle is an original California Jeep and has only been in New England maybe 3 years. Last month we pulled the carpet and repaired a small rust hole under the rear seat (where they all rust out) and I wire-wheeled the entire rear cargo area deck of the surface rust and painted with several coats of quality paint to prevent any further rust. I have pretty solid confidence in this Jeep and really hate to see it go.
THE JEEP:
Super clean 1990 XJ 4 door, Laredo, white exterior, grey interior,
4.0L Renix engine high miles but makes no noise at all and runs excellent.
AX-15 5 speed trans
Power windows and locks.
Tinted rear glass (haven’t replaced the side windows yet but I have the glass. I hate clear rear windows that anyone can see thru and check out the tools and equipment back there.)
DetoursUsa smooth steel Slim-Line rear bumper with tire swing.
Custom 4X4 double-tube rock rail sliders.
Front fenders are cut for TJ flares that I haven’t installed yet.
Rear fenders have been opened up with the cut/pound method.
THE LIFT:
RE 4.5” lift.
4.5” RE coils in front with ¾” poly spacer
Front Clayton Off road Mfg Hard Arm Radius arm kit
Rear RE 3.5” leafs with 1.25” RE shackle
RE Gen-II sway bar disconnects.
Rubicon Mfg twin-tube shocks.
33x12.50x15 GoodYear MT/Rs 50% tread
Cragar Soft 8 black steelies, 15x8
Spare is practically new and holds air but has a plug in the sidewall.
THE AXLES:
Front:
1995 D30 non-disconnect housing
Dana/Spicer 4.56 ring and pinion on open diff carrier.
760X stock shafts
upgraded to 98 XJ bearing hubs and brake rotors.
Warn diff cover guard.
Rear:
87 XJ Dana 44
Yukon spool
Dana/Spicer 4.56 ring and pinion.
Complete new drum brakes drums to brake lines.
RockCrusher steel diff cover.
Stock 30-spline shafts.
Both axles were completely rebuilt last winter with all new bearings and seals.
Not sure what else to add about this rig which is exactly what I have been “mentally” building for several years and finally came together for me.
For my full asking price I will have the spool replaced with an open diff carrier at my expense if the buyer would like. The spool is not “the end of the world” but it has it’s quirks when driven on the street. I honestly only dislike it when I am parking in my own small driveway.
I’d like to see $3800 for it. Reasonable offers or a trade for a ‘glass CJ-5 would be considered.
