It was time to take her out on her main voyage and first run with her. She did pretty good and I was happy, but soon found out that the PO had out in a Cherokee axle for a quick SOA, which wasn't the best idea so I started shopping around and doing research and which axle to go with. First thing I did next was i sold the roll bar thankfully which funded my rattle can paint job :laugh3:

After a few weeks with the crappy tan paint job I spent a few days sanding down and painting the whole truck Rustoleum "dark grey". I found that their ultra 2x paint works very well and covers great too!

After much research I found a great deal on an XJ dana 44 and it took about 2 months to find one at the right price I jumped for it. After talking to Mnkyboy I decided on the barnes4wd kit which was pure beef and I am very happy with it! Here's a quick little forklift flex before the axle swap, 28" kind of disappointed.

For give the welds all we had was a stick welder from the 70s...I think either way it was ancient.

Setting pinion angle wasn't as hard as I was thinking! While it was out I also put in new brakes for that extra security. After getting everything completely done she was in at a whopping 5 hours.

Very cool rig. I've been keeping an eye out for an MJ this side of the Cascades, but they're getting mighty expensive over here. Toyed with the idea of trading my XJ for one, but I've got way too much invested into it.

Keep posting updates. Love seeing the play by plays.

Looks good man, what hearing did you go with?

I went with 4.88s, gonna rebuild my LSD for the rear and bought a Spartan locker for the front through Chris Sines at Bones Custom Creations.

I also ordered my mid stiffeners for the Comanche, so the build is getting a lot of parts piling up, just wish I had the time!
