15x10 rim too wide?

I can get a set of 15 x 10 inch rims that'll bolt up to my XJ for cheap and I was wondering if that was practical for a potential crawler. 6-8 inches of lift in the future. Any insight will help. Thank You!

It all depends on the tires you plan on running. I am running a set of 35x12.50's on a 15x10 Mickey Thomson. rim right now and will be going to a set of steel 15x8's in spring. the 15x8's have a weld on bead lock kit that added about 1" to the width. So 15x10 is a great rim to run. I air down every trip and have only popped the bead twice in about 100 trips "from trail rides to rock crawling"

More important is the back spacing.

Definately depends on the tire size, but seeing where you live I doubt you'll be running a 13.50+ tire size.

Yea, really need to know what size tire you plan on running. I just got done buying a set of 33" km2's with cragar 15x8's. Went with the 15x8's because they hold a better bead than the 15x10's.

I'm running 33x13.5s on some 15x10 MT Classics (~3.6" backspacing, IIRC?). I'm happy with them thusfar, although I have't aired them down and beat the hell out of them just yet. Still have too many other things I need to take care of on this damn XJ before I'm comfortable on a trail.

As said, depends on the tire. 13.5 is the minimum I would go on a 10" wide rim. I have 33x13.5 on 15x10s, and I have a set of 5x8 beadlocks waiting for when I step the tire size up.

This picture shows a few things that I've experienced with the wide rims. You can see on the drivers front its fairly easy to hit/scrape the rims against rocks. That one got it nice just before the picture was taken, and I know all my rims have rock rash.

The bead stays on fine in my experience. I'm at 12 psi or lower here, and you can see my passenger rear is folded in some since the weight is on it, but I never lost the bead.

(Yes yes, I know, drop brackets are awesome here)

I like how 33 and 35 12.5's look on 10" wheels a lot better than 8s. But that's just me. The down side is stated. They don't "hold the bead" as well as 8s and they are sticking out farther and more prone to hitting things.
As for the bead, if you are either airing down far enough or on terrain treacherous enough to make this an issue, you should probably be running beadlocks anyway.

If it's a good deal, I say run em, and sell them later if you change your mind.

alrighty this is pretty much close to the post i was about to put up. but my thing is what wheel size i should run on a 33x12.5 allterrain. my rig is not an all out rockcrawler more like a DD and weekend offroader. I alwayss have run 15x7's but thats on light trucks thats what i have on my 2wheel ranger on33'sx12.5.ssssoooo thats why im wondering what wheel size i should run on my xj thats about to have 33's on it with a 5.5 long arm kit.i see that the 15x8 wheel is common it the xj's with aftermarket wheels thanks guys but i need to figure this out haha

I have a confession. My front tires are 12.5 lol Used to have all 4 13.5 but wore out the front due to a bad front end and got a set of 33x12.5 cheap. I didn't have an issue but I wouldn't run lower then 10lbs while wheeling on them just to be sure you don't pop a bead. Ideally I want to get new 13.5s back up front.

You will be functionally fine with 7, 8, or 10 inch wide wheels. It is all about your preference, and whether the above "issues" with the wider rim are something you are concerned about. The 8 inch is definitely the most common.

The backspacing is ~3.75 and i decided i will be getting them. Thank you all for your input!
