01 cherokee 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive

just noticed the JY parts has a dana 35 rear end I know this is junk but again just using for snow in the winter can I use my stock dana 35 rear end with the conversion this would save me a lot of time and money

yes
assuming both cars are automatic, the ratios should be the same and it will be fine.

I am taking every ones advice and ordered the shift linage. I have ordered the terra track SYE and front and rear drive shafts. they will be here any day. I have been on a lot of overtime so I have not had much time to do anything else.

I am seeing the wiring harness for the 4x4 light hanging from my tranny I am wondering if anyone knows of a way to make it light up in the dash so I can see if the lights are in the dash without taking it apart just yet. or how to test and see if it is there???

it should be as simple as plugging it in to the t-case.

If your case doesn't have the right connector you can splice it, pigtail adapter it or change the switch in the case.

I mean a way to test before I do the swap. I would like to see the dash lights light up before hand. but I see the harness and I can see where it is on the dash. hopefully it will just plug n play.

that's what I thought to just complete the circuit. plug a wire into both ends should complete the circuit. I tried with some gator clips. I will try with some wire. but I agree there might not be bulbs would be way to easy!!! I did read some place where a guy did a swap and even the dash lights came on with just plug n play. just one more thing I have to open up no big deal...

I don't get these swaps, regardless of how much sentimental value there is. You have to put some value on your time. Start with a 4x, your 2x isn't going to be so pretty after you wheel it anyway. I wouldn't bother saying this if you had already dismantled the 2x, but it seems like there's still hope.

Very worth it for those of us who want 5 speed 4wd XJ's, as the 2wd 5 speeds are easy to find, tend to be very unmolested, and cheap.

Throw in a 4wd trans from a wrangler, automatic XJ axles for better gearing, and you can end up with a good wheeling rig for less than it costs to find one that came 4wd 5 speed from the factory.

Hell, also worth it to replace an almost dead rig with a low mile, not folded like a taco rig.

ordered the last seals and gaskets I think I will need. I am going to do the chain on the TC seeing as I will have it open to install the SYE. I will start cleaning up the JY parts in the next few days and get them prepped and ready for the swap. I am going to use por 15 on the axles and anything I feel needs paint. getting close to go time.

transfer case rebuilt transmission installed everything runs fine put the rear drive shaft in and test drove. small leak at speedo sensor easy fix. will install front axle and drive shaft in next few weekends. harness was there to plug in transfer case now need to figure out the wires to the dash board. I know they are there some where??? anyone???

ok bulbs are there harness is there and plug is there I the tested switch I have continuity at the switch tested bulbs show continuity also but I have no continuity at the plug. any ideas I know the plug is wired to the harness other wise why would it be hanging there??? anyone???
