This makes sense. Maybe I messed up my last clutch replacement.
Anyways, I've been reading and watching clutch theory videos all morning and I went through a thread that I started in March 2022 on this issue and Cruiser54 replied that I should get on a hill @ 20mph and burn the clutch in 4th...
Yeah, I thought so too. But it's been doing it through now and well before my last clutch job. But maybe it is...
The clutch has lots of pump (pedal) and feels like it's fully disengaged. Replaced master cylinder a few months ago.
The problem isn't just reverse any more, if I try to get into any gear at a stop it grinds. It's been like this for a long time, progressively getting worse.
To get into first from a stop is pretty stressful if I'm in traffic. It's not all the time. It seems to shift fine for a little bit in...
Hi, my old 1992 XJ (4.0, 4-wheel drive) is still my daily driver at 260k. The manual 5-speed has been stubborn to get into reverse since I can remember and has deteriorated to the point that getting into 1st or reverse from a stop is most times a jam & grind deal depending on it's mood.
I...
Hi,
I have a 1992 Cherokee and I had a leak in my fuel pressure regulator so I replaced it with a part from O'Reilly's. Since then I have long crank times when starting. I read that it may have something to do with fuel pressure.
I had no problem before replacing it even though it was spewing...
I fixed it. It was the coil. Funny the new one read almost exactly the same as the old one. The old one was 8k ohms between the primary and secondary windings and the new one is 9k.
Neither one read any continuity between the primary to ground (casing body) or secondary to ground. The old...
The fuel injectors pulsing? No I haven't looked into the fuel system. How would I test for that? I can read up on the fuel system tomorrow. Is your reasoning maybe a bad Engine Controller or the Sync Signal Generator Module (inside the distributor)?
I haven't tried to test for pulsing to the...
Hi,
I have a 1992 Cherokee with a manual transmission. The other day it was running great and had been for a while. I recently replaced the water pump and shortly before that I had a shop do U-Joints, thermostat and power steering pump.
Like I said it was running great and I turned it off and...
Just an update, I bought all the parts, gear & transfer oil and some tools and was set to tear it down but first I took it out and did what Cruiser54 suggested (kind of). There's a steep hill down the street so on the way up I let the clutch out enough to get it spinning and revved the RMP for a...
Thanks Cruiser54, Anaka, Lawsoncl & Clean96XJ.
I can go out and try burning the clutch a bit today. I plan on picking up some:
"penzoil synchromesh GL-4 or 3 Without Sulfars that damage brass syncros or even just synthetic 10W-30"
and another clutch kit from O'Reilly's. They should give me...
I can't edit my post here right? So, I'll talk to myself for a bit. I guess if at a stop that the pressure plate sticks to the flywheel for some reason, or maybe it can't slide along the spindle or something then the flywheel wouldn't sync and that would do it.
All right, it's been a long day I...
I put the clutch in about 9 months ago. I don't think I resurfaced the flywheel then.
I was driving it today around town (about 2 miles back and forth) it was iffy all along but after the 3rd stop it refused to go into gear at stop lights so I has to stop the engine each time. I then drove...
Hi all,
I have a 1992 XJ with 254K on it and a 5-speed manual transmission (I'm assuming an
ax-15). Me and my kid did the last clutch job about 9 months ago with a kit from
O'Reily's that included the pressure plate, cover, pilot bearing and slave cylinder. I
did some reading before hand...
Oh, and we changed the clutch about 6 months ago. My son and his friend did a lot of the work and I put most of it back together so there is a chance that someone missed a motor/transmission grounding cable somewhere or maybe something wasn't tightened enough.
I didn't see the option to edit...
