Ok, so I have a '96 XJ with a pretty good fluid leak coming from the power steering box. I also have access to a '98 TJ that was rolled at high speed and totaled, to use for free parts. Visually the power steering box on the TJ looks identical to the one on my XJ but my question is does anyone...
Thanks for the input Jake. The more I learn about this the more I feel Im better off finding a different solution. I was never set on using a 3/4 elliptic, I was just thinking of ways to do something different. I think Im going to go with inboarding the leaves and running some longer MJ...
Hey Jake, Do you have any pictures of your setup still? If so I'd like to see them. Did you keep the springs outboarded like factory or relocate them below the frame? Do you remember what spring you used?
Sorry for the invalid link. here is the page for the writeup. I was referencing the third picture on that page. http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/suspension/buggyleaf/
And now that you mention it, I just noticed that this was written in 1999 it looks like. It seems you might be right about this...
Here is a picture to help better illustrate what I was thinking with the full length 'goofy' leaf with two spring hangers. http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/suspension/buggyleaf/fullspring3.jpg

I am redoing the rear suspension in my XJ and am very interested in a 3/4 elliptic setup as a low cost solution for maximum flex. I am familiar with the standard 3/4 elliptic setup using buggy springs and wouldnt even be bothering you all with this except I intend to use a full main leaf...
Thanks for all the replies.
Now, is it recommended that I take this to a machine shop to have the carrier holes reamed, or can I expect reasonable success just throwing the junk under the drill press?
xXJx - Did your buddy say any magic words before he did it? Also what vehicle was the axle...
I just got my Yukon Gear 4.88T gears in the mail for my rear Dana 44. These are the thick gears to be used with the 3.73- case so I dont have to change carriers. Now... I was under the impression there would be no modification necessary to run the thick gears and that it would be just like any...
Ive had good success with plain old oven cleaner. Should be able to find some under the kitchen sink, just dont let the Mrs. know what you're using it for.
I need to make some rock rings/diff guards. A long while ago I saw a site that sold just the flange/mating surface part of the diff cover for a few different axles so you could fabricate your own diff guards. Anyone know what Im talking about and know where I can find them again?
I live about an hour north of C-ville, and drive through there occassionally with no doors. Havent had any problems there or anywhere else in VA. You get some funny looks from people sometimes, but The Law hasnt ever said anything to me about it, so I (ASS-U-ME) that its ok. If the Wranglers...
