The preload is determined by how tight you have it. So you would tighten the pinion nut snug and continue to tighten it while checking the rotating torque of the pinion with an inch pound torque wrench.
Depends on what axle you have and if you're using new or used bearings what the preload...
Do it right and just lift it higher. You're going to do 2" and want 3". Then you'll have 3" and want 4.5". Goto 4.5" and 33's and be done with it.
I learned the hard way cause I started with a 2" BB. I incorporated the 2" into my 3" and I'm happy sitting between 4.5 to 5".

I did, and it was a pita trying to wade through all the BS to get what I wanted. So I posted.
I searched for the following under three different discussion subjects:
8.25 = too many results
8.25 27 spline = got 5 pages of results
8.25 27 29 = nothing
8.25 27 carrier = way too many results...
Cal - It looks like the only way to fix that would be to extend the upper bumpstop and remove half of the hockey pucks. I'll have to see how close I am to having that same problem .....
Using hockey pucks for bump stops. I wasn't sure if this has been done before? I picked up a pack of 12 hockey pucks, drilled holes in the middle, and put a bolt threw the middle. The cool thing about it is that they're the perfect size to slip between the suspension coil. So if you want to...
