I forgot to add that the axle shafts are heat-treated 1542 Alloy Steel and they do not neck down like the stock shafts... The studs are 1/2"
I'm not trying to pimp my stuff, but it really is a nice axle. I wish I could have bought something like this when I did my swap... Would have saved a lot...

I hate welding to sheet/thin gauge metal, so I understand where you are coming from. MIG welding doesn't allow you to concentrate the direct the heat like TIG welding would. I would try using a whipping C motion, begin the puddle on the thicker metal then whip down to the sheet and quickly back...
A diode is a "check valve" for an electronic circuit. They will have a maximum amperage and a rated voltage. They require a specific amount of voltage that is required for the diode to allow current to flow through it. In most cases it's approximately 0.7 volts. They can get saturated if too...
