Try unplugging the vac line to the egr valve, mine did the same thing and if I plug in the EGR it drops to around 100rpm and then dies. Replace your egr valve or clean it out if that does anything.

Just get one from the dealer because you dont know what kind of condition one you get from a junkers will be in. It will cost more but if you get a crappy one then you have to buy another anyways.

They came in *some* XJ's with the towing pkg unfortunatly not all :(
