I need to weld some cromo to some mild steel. What fill metal would be best to use for this. It was welded wrong this first time and the weld have cracked and I would like to do it right this time, but have only experience welding mild steel to mild and stainless to inconel and stainless. Thanks.

Def. go with a 220 unit. If you are taking classes it will not do you too much good to practice with a samller unit as the ones in the welding labs are big units. Look on cyberweld.com for good deals on welders.
