I saw a team from England weld a bunch of 60 gal barrels together and strap it to an XJ and float the thing across a lake on Junkyard wars a couple of years ago. You could try something like that. It might reduce your fuel efficiency

I have a small hole, about the size of a golf ball, on the frame where the front end of the leaf spring attaches to the frame. I am worried that the leaf spring will be ripped off the frame while rock crawling.

When I replaced my spring pack I installed new U-bolts. These U-bolts were tight but loosened off after about 1000 miles. I tightened 'em up and have had no problems since. Try hitting 'em with an impact gun, see if that helps

I am not sure if this will work but I have used a pipe wrench sometimes when the nut is rounded. The pipe wrench will tighten up as you apply force to the handle. I would try that before drilling or torching.

I have a Detroit locker and the same thing happens. I always warn people about that if I lend them my Jeep. Usually they all say "Don't worry I've driven a Jeep before" and them tell me something is wrong with it when they get back.
