Odometer is no longer accurate - 2000 XJ

There's been no consistent difference percent wise but after a 650 mile highway trip the odometer was short 68 miles on the return (exact same route). On shorter trips where I am taking the same route (for example going to the ski hill and coming home) I've noticed as much as an 6 mile...

Odometer is no longer accurate - 2000 XJ

3.07's behind a NV3550 with 235/75/15 I know that the slightly larger tires will affect the speedo and odometer, but that isn't the problem - trying to figure out why I'm getting different readings on the odometer for the exact same trips!

Odometer is no longer accurate - 2000 XJ

The trip odometer in my 2000 XJ is no longer working accurately. I get drastically different trip odometer readings on the drive out vs return taking the exact same route. I've observed this on 8hr highway trips and also my short commute. What would cause this? Is it causing my speedo to...

    Can I disable power locks?

Can I disable power locks so I have to manually lock or unlock the doors? I'm having some problems with my power locks on my 2000 XJ; the motor for the rear hatch sometimes has a mind of it's own while the car is parked; this drains the battery and makes for unexpected hard starts sometimes...

    Xj Longevity

I'm on my 3rd XJ; I've owned a 1990, a 1998 and am now driving a 2000 model. In between the XJ's I listed I owned a few other SUV's and 4x4 pickup trucks. Nothing really beats the Jeep. The only compromise that I feel I make with my XJ is a lack of cargo space sometimes when compared to a bit...

    3.07's with 235/75/15 or 30" tires

Well, I'm going to install the 30x10.5's I have once the snow melts and see how she goes. My commute is only 10 miles at 60mph and a little city driving so I'm sure I can suck it up for 6 months until these tires wear out and I decide what my next step will be. A few years down the road I'd...

    3.07's with 235/75/15 or 30" tires

Thanks for the input guys. I hadn't realized that the NV3550 has a deeper 5th gear as well. The end goal with this XJ is only a 235/75/15 tire (I'm even having a hard time justifying a small 2" lift) so I don't plan on regearing for such a small increase in size. I've owned bigger 4x4's over...

    3.07's with 235/75/15 or 30" tires

My 2000 XJ has the NV3550 5spd and 3.07 axle gears. I need to upgrade the tires in a few months and would like to run a LT235/75/15 tire with a 2" budget boost. I also have a set of all terrains that measure 30x10.5 which I could use in the interim, thus saving me the cost of buying new tires...

    Ride / Handling improvements ??

Re: relocation bracket I was running a rocklizard style lift (bastard pack/V8 coils and a spacer) which netted me right at 2.25" of lift on my old 1990 but I never added a track-bar relocation bracket or re-drilled the track-bar. Steering definately felt a little iffy on washboard roads, even...

OEM shock replacement - brand prefs?

the KYB GR2 are definately kidney shakers, I can't comment on any of the other shocks you listed but those are definately garbage on a light vehicle like the XJ.

Returning XJ owner: 1997 XJ questions

I know, I was a little too shaken up to think about it though! On an even stranger side note, my car demolished two memorials for seperate tragic accidents that had happened on the same corner. Imagine my surprise when I crawled out the window to find crosses and photographs scattered all...

Returning XJ owner: 1997 XJ questions

cool, doorless isn't a concern for me, this is mostly a DD that I use for exploring, camping and some light wheeling. My last setup with 235's took me where I wanted to go; this one will get a 2" left, some bumpstopping and a set of 31's I have kicking around...should be more than enough for me.

Returning XJ owner: 1997 XJ questions

Hey, thanks for the quick replies guys. This site (and my 1990 XJ) are what tought me how to turn wrenches on my own vehicles. Imagine my dismay when I opened the hood on my 4Runner...the 3VZE V6 is definately NOT user friendly! So basically this 1997 should be the same as my 1998...

Returning XJ owner: 1997 XJ questions

Hi all, I've been a member of this site for several years now and have owned a few XJ's in that time. I've owned a few XJ's over the years, starting with a 1990 XJ followed by a 1998 XJ sport. The 1998 was an absolute dream vehicle for me to own, 25k miles of trouble free offroad abuse, road...

Interesting occasional "popping" noise in XJ

I've also noticed the windshield "popping" really loudly on my 1998, I've only had it for around 8 months and I get the noise occasionally but never consistently, it just pops whenever it fees like it. If anyone comes up with an explanation that would be great...it's not loose shocks or...
