I know this is an old thread but I found it debating this very question...
Artec's instructions for both the TJ 8.8 truss/bracket kit and the JK front truss say to stitch weld. The 30 front truss might be different but I doubt it.
Does anyone have the size and threadpitch of the main motor mount bolts for a '95 4.0 ? Dealership is going to take a couple of days to get them for me...
After it was done on the charger it showed 12 volts on the multimeter. Checked that before I bothered to put the battery under the hood. Haven't looked at cables on the starter side but didn't look crazy corroded at the battery.
My XJ has been sitting for over a year with no front axle. It has been exposed to the weather (no doors in front) and has not been sheltered. I have started it every so often and it has been infrequent enough that I usually have to charge the battery.
Yesterday I charged the battery and today...
Grenaded spiders and couple of ring gear teeth when the u-joint went on the shaft. 33x12.50s aired down to 8 or so psi in snow deep enough to fold the side mirrors in. Frisky with the skinny pedal w/ stock 4.0/3.55s.
So I thought we used to have a tech forum for non-xj questions, but this question will hopefully involve my XJ someday...
A friend is selling a 1984 Mercedes 300TD with around 280,000 mi on the clock. Decent condition, test drove it today and the tranny shifts hard & there's a little bit of...
Bang on.
I'd prefer to have mine on 8" rims really. As light as my XJ is I've got to air WAY down (5-8 psi) to get much of an increased contact patch. Still get a good flat tread when aired up, don't have much in the way of problems with cupping or uneven wear or anything like that.
Aren't ZJ fronts HP30s too? Since the linkage is the same, they're really just the same axle, right?
Yeah, what he said. Why swap in a weaker axle with less ground clearance unless she's street only?
Could be the photo but just that little bit of tongue weight would have me a bit concerned with the rears rubbing or at least riding on the bumpstops.
Other than that, badass. I think someone properly motivated could take a stocker, trim the fenders, comp cut the rear and stretch the WB a bit...
Yeah, that's what I did. Used the old saginaw box as a core.
If you go with the durango box, be prepared to do a little fab. I made plate to box in the frame rail with spacers on it to move the durango box out from the frame something around 3/4" IIRc. Big improvement though, turns the 33s...
2x4x3/16" here... I'm thinking that anything tearing up 3/16" rockers would play HELL with the sheetmetal that the rockers are welded to...
If you're tying it to a subframe or cage I could see some more beef but for my application I think 1/4" would have been overkill.
OTOH, I don't ever...
