lets see your custom RENIX intake tubes

There's a myriad of threads and post of Custom HO tubes but going to the renix TB is slightly more involved. Any of you's have pics of your custom tube going all the way to the RENIX throttle body? I'm going to make a flange with holes for the tb bolts and a hole in the middle to stick some exaust tubing through it than flare the tubing. Havn't started yet, just thought i'd see what everyone else has done.
 
You can use your renix stock air box with a cone air filter and some 3" pvc

Can you provide more specs on the paper air filter used in that last setup? What vehicle is it meant for?

it looks to be 90's and up Ford-- Mustangs, trucks, and many other "larger" bodied Fords had varients of it. Hit the auto store and look up a few varieties to get sizes.
 
Yeah i have something similar to your first pic. I'm inquiring on those who have custom made the entire intake tube all the way to the throttle body in lieu of using the resrtictive stock throttle body tube.

how to sawp the throttle body 52mm Renix 4.0 1987-1990 by one of GM vortec 4.3 1996-2002 70mm

Material used:

1 GM Vortec tb 4.3 1996-2002 (without sensors).
1 vortec S-10 bonnet
1 used Vortec iac valve, does not matter if it works, GM # 17,113,209, AC DELCO # 217-435
what is needed is that you can unscrew the pintle
1 custom aluminum base 4" x 4.5" x1"
1 work shop Workmanship, drills and polish
1 3" diameter air duct hose
3 allen head bolts 3/8 x 1"
2 bolts 4mm x 2"
2 spacers 6mm x 1"
1 JB Weld tube
1 RTV high temperature aluminum color

$97.00 dlls.


These materials can be found at the junk yard, work shop, hardware stores, autozone and home depot.

The aluminum base is more difficult to find. I bought a custom aluminium base in a work shop.
You have to provide the Renix and Vortec TB gaskets.

It uses the same Renix TPS.

This is the difference in size between the Renix vs vortec butterflies 52mm and 75mm.

The vortec throttle opening is the same way that the Renix.

The mouth of the vortec is 80mm but the neck is reduced to 75mm at the butterfly.

The bottom of the neck is closed up to 70mm.
The Renix plenum entry is 60mm.

This is the custom aluminum base.
The measurements are 4 "x4.5" x1 ".

I drill a breathing window so the iac valve can control idle.

The bore is 62mm.

The allen head bolt at the renix base is 3/8" x1".

This part is the most complicated because it requires finding a way to match de renix tps with the vortec tb shaft. Usually a small tube welded to the shaft to move the tps lever is used. there are a lot of "renix to HO tb" threads showing how to do this mod.

You must do more drilling out the 2 tps grommets, are like 2mm on each hole.

Another important point is the iac valve. We use the same one that comes with the Renix but with some modifications.

The head of the Renix iac is smaller than the vortec, but only use the vortec pintle . You can unscrew the pintle with a little DW40 help. Also I put 3 O-rings for a better seal as indicated by the arrow.

Renix iac valve fits perfectly into the hole on the vortec but one of the pins is as 2mm more toward to the center than the other, should be drilled as 2mm inward.

Seal the custom aluminium base with a lot of high temperature RTV.

Assemble the TPS with the 2 4mm x 2" bolts and 2 1" spacers and calibrate the tps to yours tranny specs.

I made a small hole with a drill in the accelerator linkage bracket so it can pass a wire and tie to the tb pulley .

Another modification that has to do is relocate the MAP sensor vacuum. I join it together with the ventilation´s vacuum hose.

There are several vortec´s bonnets, the S-10 are the best becouse it comes with the mouth downwards, these are best suited to this modification. But even so it is longer than expected and bump on the hood of the engine.

You have to trim it and make the mouth a little to the right. Then paste with JB Weld and seal with duct tape.

In the mouth I put a 3" PVC pipe and seal it with JB Weld .

I let it dry and paint it.

Connect the air box lid with a 3" air hose.

Protect the air intake with sun shield to make it CAI.
