NP229 and NP241 transfer case part interchangeability

I am thinking about makeing the change before the New Year to a later model NP231 or NP241 transfer case from my older NP229/NP228 and was wondering if I could use the input gear and gear chain out of my ole NP229/NP228 case and put both into the newer NP321 or NP241 transfer case-I guess the question I have is about the interchangeability of the transfer case parts-TIA
