Re: Trany Help

Unplug the TCU (transmission control unit) and see if it will shift manually.

And learn to use the SEARCH feature.

Re: Trany Help

Under the dash by the glove box, I believe, and the later models it was moved to the drivers side.

Re: Trany Help

It will disable the transmissions electronics.

If it will shift as you move through the gears manually, then you will know that your problem is in the electronics and/or wiring.

There is an in-line fuse to the TCU, there are solenoids in the transmission, and multiple inputs to the TCU that can screw things up. If it still won't shift with the TCU unplugged then you have a mechanical or hydraulic problem.

Did this happen right after you worked on the NSS? Did you get the mounting nut too tight--that happens fairly often.

Re: Trany Help

That's a pic of a 97+ TCU actually - the 96 TCU looks very much like it, but larger (about the size of a package of PopTarts, but 3x thicker.) It's located on the back of the lowest plastic panel for the passenger side of the dashboard. You can see it if you stick your head under the dashboard by the blower motor and look back up toward the seats.
