SYE + Driveshaft...under $100.00 (not 56k friendly)

Thanks guys. I'm planning on going to the jy soon to get a spare front ds for my XJ. I wasn't sure if there were different spline counts for different years or if a HP vs LP mattered. I wasn't sure if I needed a 97+ from an 231, or if I could choose any year XJ with a 231.

Right now I have an extra front DS from a 98, but I wanted to save that as a trail spare.

I have a kit with a flange and i want to use my extra front xj driveline. I see people have mounted them together with a spicer # 211229x flange adapter. like this http://www.currieenterprises.com/cestore/product.aspx?id=1043.
my question is do you remove the top halve of the ball socket to mount the ujoint ends into the adapter, and can you run without it. The piece that im talking about holds the ujoint from behind and the bults thread into it. but in the adapter the ends are captured. here is a pic half way down in this thread to show attached.

and the write up here.
A front drive shaft from any 91+ AW4 equipped XJ and a Spicer 211229x flange adapter.

Something alot o guys fail to mention is that the DS length for a AX15 vs AW4 are different. The AW4 equipped XJs have a DS that is roughly an inch maybe two, longer that an AX15 equipped XJ. This is due to the different length tranny's

i am having the DS Lengthened and balanced for 90 bucks i just need to know if i can run without that piece in the assembly. there is no way to get the end of the ujoint though the ears with the cradle piece wrapped halfway around it.

I want to say it's 1.41 or 1.46 inches longer. Google for J321-CV, download the Dana PDF, and look under Jeep till you find the right drivetrain combinations, then compare lengths.
