So I walked past the rover today and started getting really bummed that I couldn't make it to Scarr because of work.:( Rather than wait another whole year for Scarr to come back around I decided I would go ahead and try and make a "New" annual Land Rover meet. Here are my plans.

I will stick with the Theme of "Scarr" and call this meet "Scabb"

Scabb: Sand,Cold Alcohol,Beautiful Beach

When: First weekend of June every year (This year would be 6/6-6/8)

Where: Padre Island National seashore Padre Island National Seashore (U.S. National Park Service)

Price/Fees: $10/vehicle (this pass is good for up to 7 days, so $10 covers you for the whole weekend.)

Activities planned
: Camping, Fishing, off-road driving, music, lots of drinking, football on the beach, golf ball driving contest (both into and away from the wind), bird watching, kite flying, sand castle building, drunk friend self bury in sand contest, body surfing, body shots (bring your own body), sunburn contest, tan line contest, Bar-B-Q each night, Taco's each morning, Biggest Fish contest, Biggest hangover contest and maybe some Frisbee if there is time on Sunday.:D (All contest winners will receive a "High Five" on the way to the ice chest)

This video gives you a look at the place I'm talking about going:
Surf Fishing Padre Island National Seashore (PINS) - YouTube

I assume that this will mostly be a Texas Rover thing like Scarr, but anyone is welcome. I know that camping and fishing isn't for everyone, but if this sounds like your kind of fun and you might want to go then pack up your heavy duty surf rods and camping gear, fill up your gas cans and ice chests, and lets go off the grid for the weekend.

Come one, come all!

The SCABB trip is coming up in just over a month so I wanted to try and give anyone who is coming some directions to get down there. I am hoping some of us are able to meet up and caravan down there together, but just in case we can't I want you to be able to find the base camp.

I will start these directions from Corpus Christi. You should be able to find your way there on your own.

Take I-37 to 358

Then take 358 all the way down (over the JFK memorial Causeway) and it will turn into Park road 22.

Once you are over the bridge and onto Park rd 22 start looking for the cross streets "Commodores" and "hwy 361". There is a Stripes gas station there on the corner that is one of the last 2 before you hit the beach, so I recommend filling up with gas and getting any last supplies here.

Once you have gas, jump back on Park Road 22 and take it all the way to Padre Island National Seashore. Warning:You will have to pull up to a window and pay the $10 entry fee ($20 for the year), and there is a park ranger there. I know it's been a long drive and you can smell the beach, but make sure you don't have any open containers or what not. Once in the park you want to stay on the main road and go all the way to the back of the park to the South beach. You will pass this big Visitor Center on the left and this is the last place for running water restrooms and showers.

Stay on the main road past the visitor center until you hit the beach and from there you can only go one way, South. (It's all about digging holes and buckets from this point on. Which reminds me. Let's respect thy neighbors smell and make camps about 30ft apart. You will thank me later.) Just follow the beach until you spot my Rover. You will probably see my beer can pyramid shinning in the sun before you see my Rover. I will stay somewhere before the 10th mile marker and wait for everyone to show up so we can all travel down the 60 miles of beach to the jetty together. I'm still not sure where we will setup camp, but I know I want to drive all the way to the end of the line. We might find a better spot along the way that we will want to stop at or double back to, I have only been to the 18th MM so I'm not sure what's around the bend.

On a side note. I still need to find the best place along the way to stop and buy bait and I'm bringing a blender for Margaritas, pina coladas, and strawberry daiquiris.

Im going with in my XJ. Need more XJ guys. ;)

MJs would make it even better :)

If I go...and that's if, I'd be riding co-pilot. The money I would spend on gas can buy me some new axle yokes to get these damn shafts in.

as you can see froma picture Crusher16 took, @ssDisco is ready to roll out. maintenance has been done to it and it only needs things i would want like a lift a a winch and tires but those can wait till after the trip if need be.

thanks for the heads up!

so is anyone going to come out apart from Crusher16?

Been thinking of heading in Thursday night to get an extra night of camping and day of fishing. Thoughts?

Was a great time! Other than my back making me miserable, much fun.

I am back at home and this trip was a blast. Jared thanks for setting it up and showing us around and also a thanks to dusty1 for lending the jump box as it was almost needed a few times.

The trip down with the rover was uneventful until the xyz switch decided to freak out a little on me- apart from that the rover was great- i need to re do the roof rack with thicker spray paint and rust remover.

In total i drove 1,025 miles and they were all worth it, quite the trip for sure.

here are the turtle vids:
Ridley Sea Turtle Digging a hole - YouTube
Ridley Sea Turtle laying its eggs - YouTube
Ridley Sea Turtle doing the "Turtle Dance" - YouTube
Ridley Sea Turtle leaving - YouTube

The turtle was named SCABB PINS after the trip by the Landroverforums.com guys haha

I have washed the truck down to remove most of the outside sand and tomorrow ill start working on the interior.

Sand went everywhere and i learned some valuable lessons on camping at the beach.

Also the best beacon when trying to find me was a kite with an led glow stick.
