This happened on a stock 07 tacoma with pretty low miles. 05-15 Toyota Tacoma's with the factory locker are equipped with this tiny 8" diff. We often swap them to the much more robust 8.4 (the oem non-locking rear) with an aftermarket locker. As you can see here the left carrier bearing has spun on the journal so it slides on and off. What this did is loosen up the preload to allowing excessive backlash. The condition is amplified under heavy load, as the pinion forces the ring gear away, which eventually lead to this catastrophic failure. Check it all out at: JustDifferentials.com

It has been over one month since we had Nitro Gear & Axle change the gears in our truck. She doesn't have huge tires, but she is 6200 pounds. The truck is so much easier to start from a stop with way less clutch involved. It's awesome. It's also super nice on the hills. I like that you made it easy as 1, 2, 3, now if you could help me with step 4, getting approval from the ole ball n chain, step 5, payment, and step 6, installation. Think I got step 7 covered, enjoying.
