Mapping Walker Valley

As most of you know the current map of Walker Valley leaves something to be desired. The DNR created map is certainly helpful and better than going without but I dont think its quite up to date with the recent changes at Walker.

I know nothing about mapping or GPS but I would like to learn. I downloaded some open source GPS tracking software to my Blackberry which has the ability to export KML files which can then be imported into Google Maps or Google earth. My intention is to make a better map of Walker Valley and learn a little about GPS and mapping in general. Google Earth has some amazing satellite shots of Walker Valley and should help make a really cool looking map.

On the last trip to Walker Valley I tested the tracking software just to get some preliminary data to play around with. The results of which can be seen here: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=U...69,-122.137842&spn=0.040434,0.077162&t=h&z=14

What do you guys think?

I think that the Timber Tamers have made an effort to map Walker Valley. It would defenitely be worth communicating with them.

What's the name of the software for your Blackberry? I'd like to download it and give it a try at TSF next weekend.
