Jes, you gotta open seat? My rigs not ready yet  I could go up with ya Thursday afternoon.

I don't know. I've got a friend that wants to come, wheather or not they will is to be determined.
I'll let you know.

Brian, don't come unless you fully test that monstrosity you're building before hand! :D

Crazy4Mopar, get off yer lazy a$$ and get to a wrecking yard for some cheapo 260 axle shafts. I just bought some brand new 297 axle shafts for this trip because I ruined one during BOTW.

Keven, I'll have an open seat. We'd have to figure out how to hook up if you want to ride along. I won't be getting up there until late on Thursday, probably bunking with SeanP that night.

My Dad and I are coming up Thursday afternoon and would like to meet up with whomever will be camping at/near the staging area. We should be there by 8:00 pm barring any problems on the way up.

I will bring a jug of tequila for marg's and some other fixin's for burritos or something.

Looking forward to seeing those of you I know and meeting those of you I don't!

Scott

Thanks Jes and Richard, for the offers/opportunitys.

Hopefully I'll be riding with Rob!!!!!

Richard, if needed you could pick me up late Thursday. I'll keep ya posted.

Whats the best way to get up to Tahoe with a motorhome towing a jeep?

Ray, you have two choices. I15 to 395, or I5 to 99. I think it's a tough call which one would be faster. Maybe Curtis or Andy can tell you how long it takes them to get there from Ridgecrest coming up 395. From Bakersfield, it takes me about seven hours to Ice House, so I'd say about eight hours to the Lake Tahoe staging area.

Since your starting on the tahoe side 395 would probably be easier since 50 from Sacramento is only 2 lanes for about 30 miles and up hill.

I don't know about faster though. Its a tough call from Carlsbad. If your motorhome has over-heating issues then I would definately take I-5 to Sacramento and skip the desert.

Ray,

If I was you I would run up 395. The run from Sacramento to Tahoe in a Motohome is more work and time than the run up from 395 to Tahoe. When I finally get to go with the Motorhome that is what I'll do. I've even heard of guys parking the rig in a Casino parking lot for the weekend and driving to the trail with the Jeep. The road from homestead, the housing tract, to the staging area is for smaller size, under 30' est., motorhomes. Anyhow driving back to the staging area to pick up a rig is a pain, better to leave it in Tahoe even if you pay for a camp stop. It will be worth the exrta hourS you'll spend getting back to the tow rig. Going bcak to the staging area is WAY out of the way home. Unless you're coming back out of the trail thru Tahoe.

Andy and Curtis park their tow rigs at one of the casino's, you can talk to them about which one, and hook up for Thursday night.

Update...

...I just got back from the Rubicon and the weather up there was gorgeous. Gate Keeper was wet and muddy, in fact I got high centered while I was coming out this morning and had to winch a few inches to get unstuck. Be prepared for deep water at the springs, judging by the amount of water between Gate Keeper and Spyder Lake. Also a lot of rocks have really been moved around and there are now a couple of obstacles where there weren't any before.
The mosquitos have just hatched and are especially blood thirsty around dusk and dawn, bring DEET!

Ray,
From Ridgecrest, I take 395 up to Tahoe. At Minden, we jump over from 395 to 206/207 to connect to the 50. To do this, we take regular streets, but there are signs that indicate how to get to the 206/207. There's a pretty step grade (Kingsbury Grade) that you have to climb, but it sure is a pretty view looking down at the valley. It takes about 5-6 hours to get into Tahoe.

I park my truck and trailer in one of the casino parking lots. I always call first to make sure that it is okay. Just don't park in the RV spots unless if you talk to the parking attendents and get a sign for your vehicle. I usually try to park at the Horizon (775-588-6211) or Heavenly (775-586-7050). Some friends of mine say they always park at Ceasars (775-588-3515), but I've never had luck getting permission to park there. There's really easy access to both Horizon and Heavenly from the 50.

I'll be heading up there on Thursday morning sometime (around 6:00 AM). We'll probably be in Tahoe by noon.
Andy

Thanks for the tips on parking up in Tahoe. If there's a casino around my wife is happy so I'm happy. Looks like I'm gonna make this trip.

What do you need me to bring for Friday nites dinner?

Richard, what time are ya comin' through Sacto? Looks like I'll be takin' ya up on the offer.

I'll be leaving Bakersfield around 5:00 pm, which would put me there between 9:30 and 10:00 depending on where I'm going. I hope to get away a little earlier, but I won't know if I can until close to when I leave.

Ray, maybe bring some cookies or something for dessert.
Lee, I'm thinkin' we'll have maybe 15-20 people?
Looks like I'll make it up to the trailhead around 10P.M. or so. I'll probably head up the trail a little ways and camp by the lake on the left somewhere.
