Just wondering but do you have 2 of those black guards on your amsteel? Or are you using the heat guard as a chafe guard? The black line protectors are meant to be used on the first wrap to keep the lines from melting when the drum heats up.:thumbup:

The pics are old. I was following the thread about winch line where you mentioned the chafe guard no-no. I've still got it on the hook end as I thought it was a chafe guard. I've not used it since I read your post. The next time I've got it unspooled, I plan on putting it where it's meant to go. Thanks for the info!
