Buying metal

I want to start doing some fab work. This is a new venture for me. What should I expect to pay for metal tubing, and where is a good source? What size and thickness would be good for things like bumpers, tube fenders, and sliders?

I don't know prices but for most of what you want to build 3/16s and 1/4 inch. It is over kill but thats what people like. Take a 18 pound sledge to a 1/4 inch think piece of sheet metal and see what kind of damage you can do then take a 1/8th inch and so the same.

I haven't bought much, but Mike (gronholz) makes runs to get scrap every now and then and I just asked him to pick some up for me.

I've found 1.75 .120 dom from about $5- 6.75/foot. Is that about right?

Sounds about right, I haven't looked at prices for awhile but it's cheaper than I figured it would be.
