AX15 from a 4.2 to a 4.0?

I can pick up an AX15 (free) that is mated to a 4.2 from what is most likely a YJ. Will it bolt up to the bell housing for an external slave bell housing and to a 96 4.0 block?

From what I've seen it should be good to go, can anybody confirm that?

Yes, crank and rods are being pulled from the 4.2.

Do not see why not. people convert to ext slave all the time.

Does the 4.2 bell housing have the mounting for the CPS?

I was at my uncle's shop last night and forgot to even look at it.

It will, external vs internal slave and pilot bearing diameter are your only real concerns.

Oh, the transfer case may end up clocked slightly differently. I forget. Pull a tail housing off a 5 speed from a 3.9L Dakota made in the early to mid 90s (as long as it has the same style shifter tower as the AX15 you have - if it's more square, it's an NV3550 not an AX15 and the tailhousing won't fit AFAIK) and slap it on that tranny and you have what is essentially an XJ AX15.

If the YJ is clocked up like the TJ, it is not a bad thing. extra clearance FTW.
