Got in the '98 ZJ this morning and the battery was low, but the truck turned over. Drove 3 miles and stopped at the gas station for a drink and shut it off.
The truck locked itself, and the key fob wouldn't unlock the Jeep. I opened it manually knowing that the alarm would sound until I fired it up. Well, it wouldn't fire up, so the alarm kept whining. It would fire and then cut off immediately.
I read that if the battery was low enough that it may not be able to read the key fob, so I did two things: (1) put brand new batteries in the fob, and (2) jumped the car with the help of a guy at the gas station. Neither worked.
I also read about putting the key in the door lock for 30 seconds to let the vehicle "relearn" the key to confirm it is not being stolen. That didn't work. Unplugged the battery and left the truck for about 2 1/2 hours. Came back with a known good battery from my XJ and put it in. All the same things. No key fob recognition, no start, and the alarm honking away.
I had it towed to my house and it is in the garage now. Unfortunately when I was pushing it with the XJ I ended up denting the tailgate (which pissed me off more.)
Any suggestions at all on how to get this thing up and running again and to override the alarm system and use the key fob again?
