Crawled under the Jeep today just to do an occasional once-over. Glad I did. Well I have no idea how long it's been like this but the tailcone for my NP231 transfer case has a bunch of stress cracks in it. One is longer than the rest (circled in one of the pics) but the rest are about the same...
Okay so I was inaccurately thinking heims and johnny joints would both give me the same results I've had with my RE trackbar. I feel better about Johnny joints and now I have some options...
Thanks folks!
It just doesn't last long. Wears out (begins to pop) after a few months.
As for the mall crawler comment, it's my DD, but that doesn't mean I don't play hard. Heaven forbid someone come on here and ask a question, letting on that they don't know everything (like blowhards like you think...
I've decided to go long arm.
Since I have had to replace the stupid heim joint in my RE 1600 trackbar twice in less than 2 years, I also decided I do not want heims or johnny joints. This is my daily driver and I want rubber bushings. I'd settle for poly, but I want regular old bushings...
I ran 31's with my AW4 auto and 3.55 stock gears for a couple years. I was never happy with the performance. I now run 32's on the same gears and it is hateful on the highway with all the shifting. 4.10's are coming next month.
Currently using my XJ as a DD, I recently switched from Goodyear MT/R's to Cooper ST's in the 265x75x16 (32x10.50) size. They kind of bridge the gap between a mudder and an all-terrain:
Big improvement on the road in all conditions (siping helps), and a much better ride, but haven't hit the...
Within a couple of months they had began to sag (no, not just "settling - sagging) and they seemd to lose their stength (spring rate seemed to get softer). After a year they are completely worthless, mushy garbage. Replaced with Rubicon Express.
If you are dead set on buying a less expensive...
I run 4" of lift and 31" MT/R's, Auto trans (w/OD), and 3:55 gears. My GPS (Garmin Legend) shows that for every 100 miles my odometer reads, I actually travel 107 miles. That is with WAAS enabled here on the East Coast. This has been checked, rechecked, and checked again with a friend's...
The Jeep I referred to above has looked great for 4 1/2 years now, never being in a garage. Being an epoxy paint, I don't see how it would "chalk out" any time soon. It's hard as nails.
Were you referring to the epoxy?
6.5" is alot for short arms.
I have regretted buying every product I have ever bought from Rough Country. Sagged coils, a trackbar bracket that (after I beat the snot out of it to make it fit) re-centered my axle but gave me bumpsteer, swaybar disconnects that came with the wrong bolts and...
Collapseable shackles... interesting.
I have the RRO 1.5" on my XJ now, and they are very stout. They kind of ticked me off with some poor customer svc but it was really no big deal. I have nothing but good to say for the quality of their product though.
So, who put them on? I'd be going to see them with a serious attitude if it was done professionally.
Whoever installed them should have told you to re-torque them or to return so they could do it for you. That's basic stuff that everyone who does suspension work should know and what...
