I find its easier to change on a stock XJ rather than a lifted one. On a lifted one its just that many more inches away from you when you're laying on the ground. Packing the socket with grease is the best advice. Do it for each bolt when removing and each bolt when putting it back together...
Its pretty simple. If he did the job correctly at the price he told you or atleast very close. Yoe weren't ripped off by him. If you did pay too much its your fault not his for doing the research AFTER THE FACT.
Yeah, I can understand if he hasn't got the best place or tools to do the job. Who feels like taking the trans out of an XJ if they don't need to. But making more threads about the same problem isn't going to get it out any quicker. Anyway, good luck with the task ahead.
Its apparent that you're in need of taking out the trans and trying to figure out what went wrong. You have two threads about this issue now and know what you need to do :-)
