I think Toyota Tacoma's have an AW4 variant as well. Some of those pickups had TRD superchargers mounted to their little 3.4 V6 that were ~250 hp. (flywheel)
I have them. They improve torque at low rpm and part throttle but I think it may have reduced the top end (like 4500+ rpm). And the paint is pretty worthless as others have said.
I think mine was 2" out of the manifold, then the stock "squish" reduced it well below 2", then after that it got much bigger before the cat, like 2.75-3" if I remember right. This was before I got long headers and a new downpipe.
Try running higher octane gas and downshift to a gear lower than what the transmission wants at the given speed/throttle position. (i.e. "D" to "3" or "3" to "1-2")
Higher rpms will turn your water pump and fan faster, but it will lower your gas mileage.
You don't need a lot of horsepower for trails (or torque for that matter) as long as you have appropriate gearing. Gearing would be the best place to start for you if that is your intent. Messing around with a tuner won't do much of anything.
I almost bought a chip for my Jeep. But I really got tired of spending money on performance items that would improve my 0-60/quarter mile times by only tenths of a second and getting beat by newer 4 cylinder cars.
So I bought a nice used 1 owner Mercedes-Benz to satisfy my need for speed and...
Winch, by a mile. No matter what you have you will get stuck eventually and only a winch or another vehicle (that isn't stuck as well) will get you moving again.
I used to run a Thrush glasspack about 5 years ago. Sounds almost like a Flowmaster but a little loud for me so I went with a Dynomax super turbo cat back.
"Senior citizen driven" isn't all its cracked up to be. Make sure you get a mechanic to check it out. Let me explain:
Seniors often take only short trips to church and the grocery store and might not allow the engine to properly warm up causing oil contamination.
Seniors are pretty good at...
