What about the RE kit makes it better in your opinion? I'm not trying to be argumentative, I just haven't personally seen any real strong advantages over T&T, Clayton, and others, but that doesn't mean they aren't there.
Certainly, and this is obviously purely my opinion. I don't like the fact that it bolts to the pinch seam as this could easily impair the installation of rock sliders. Also Instead of bolting through the frame rails with crush sleeves (which really do a lot to tie it in to the frame) they have...
I've got the T&T kit installed.
Pros for the T&T (from my own experiences):
-High clearance arms
-flush mounted LCA mounts
-excellent bellypan mounting system (6 anti-crush sleeves through uniframe)
-stiffens and braces unibody
-great price
-compatible with frame stiffeners
-bellypan increases...
exactly. I'm going to weld some 3/16" or 1/4" steel into a boxed in X frame which will mount to the bars further out. While I'm at that I'll probably put on brackets for a high-lift, and kill two birds with one stone.
I know alot of people (myself included) use Ravines. Same bolt pattern but 5.5" backspacing. Also nice that the spokes are recessed as they don't get hit as much as some rims tend to.
Haha, once I pick up a Hi-lift (which will be after I install my rock-rails) I'll either make some brackets, or just use what I used for the tire mount (Yakima Universal snaparounds).
So, after becoming tired of a 33" spare taking up cargo space in the back hatch I decided to make a roof-mounted tire rack. I got some Yakima Rain-gutter towers, 58" cross-bars for cheap on eBay, and the stock spare tire carrier from my dads TJ. Took all of 20 minutes and works great!
