T.H.O.R. VS Spectre

so you did good, funny when I checked Jeg's yesterday they weren't going to ship until 3/22...but I figured with the $40 I saved I can wait....
 
Crap your right! That's B.S. When I ordered it from jegs the site said it would ship out the 14th (this wens) . Now I have an E-mail apologizing saying it will ship from spectre on 4/5 which if I recall correctly is still a little better as I think Summit was saying like late next month..

Quadratech I think had free shipping a well but I needed to pay w paypal (using proceeds from e-bay junk to pay)

a little disapointed with jegs right now. In the past I've been pretty happy and they handled a few previous returns very well so all in all I guess it's only mildy aggravating
 
Totally happy with my THOR setup. I didn't want the Spectre because of the shininess, and the pregnant snake look of the filter can.

I don't go into water all that deep, but if gets the THOR filter wet I'm thinking it would go in the Spectre tube too. I wanted the cleaner / cooler intake air and to free up the space for a second battery, which I still haven't done.

To each their own though.

hey get the paypal debit card, I've had one for a few years now, no fees and its just like your bank debit card. I'd be lost without it. That what I pay for all my stuff through my "ebay sales"

I have the THOR and am happy with it. Any cowl intake will be loud on startup. I chose the THOR over the Spectre solely on looks. I liked the sleek black tube more than the bulging chrome one from Spectre.
 
Finally came in the mail and i got to say i am a little disappointed.

at first i wasn't too keen on all the chrome and was thinking of painting it black but decided to leave it alone.

Went with the spectre because of the clean look and liked the braided SS line instead of a cheapo peice of rubber tube.

So guess what it shows up with a Length of cheapo rubber hose for the CCV tube that doesnt even fit very snugly.

Outside of that everything looks great but this rubber hose thing bugged me. So i called them and the lady i spoke with talked over me and didn't seem to want to let me talk.
(I was not being aggressive)

She tried to tell me that was the correct hose that had allways came with this product and had not been switched out for a cheapo rubber hose .
After telling her that guys in "The jeep club" have already ordered and installed this in the past and that she was incorrect.

After being transfered to one of their tech guys, he explained that some people had problems installing the SS hose (not shure how) and the owner decided the extra cost of the hose was not worth it.
I was also told that origionaly he was the one that wanted the SS ones so they would look clean.

i was then told i could buy the SS breather hose (like $6) and the 2 Magnaclamps (like $8 apeice) for the ends from them and pay the shipping wich i didn't bother to ask what their shipping would be.

It kinda sucks that i've waited this long because Jeg's site accidentally said it was in stock when it wasn't and am now bothered with this.

Am i just being a Jerk here ?

I kind of feel like shipping this thing back for a refund and giving my $ to T.H.O.R.

I keep thinking ok Its in all the pictures its listed in the parts list on the installation instructions and its on the box as well..

I can understand mistakes happen So im not that disapointed in Jegs especially since they have given me good service in the past.

And i can understand swapping to a cheaper hose to try to make shure your company stays profitable.

But the way i see it if they were going to stop Giving you the nice clean looking hose the least they could do is put a disclaimer saying that it is pictured with optional items.

Had i been told up front i would have likely bought the hose for the cleaner look.
Instead someone tries to tell me they always came that way

I run a small company and deal with some pretty irrational people , am i being one of them ?

I feel like i'm owed the hose as advertised what do you guys think am i being a greedy consumer ?
 
Not being a greedy consumer at all, i would be mad too. Most reputable companies will note small details like this in display pictures, and if they do not then they should reconsider

I think I'll send an e-mail to jegs and spectre and see if I can get some C.S. To remedy this
 
If the pics show a SS hose, and the instructions tell you how to install a SS hose, and the parts list calls for a SS hose, you should get a SS hose, or they should update their materials. Heck, it wouldn't even be too difficult to just photoshop the hose black in the pics and keep using them.
 
Well Email sent to jegs and Spectre we will see how it is handled.

I expect Jeg's to not even blink and offer a full refund.

I'm curious to see what Spectre will do i had to send it to their sales and tech departments because they apparently don't even have a customer service E-Mail address. I do not think that bodes well as far as me getting the Stainless Hose and the 2 Magnaclamps for it sent to me free of charge.

Ill let you guys know how it is handled, and hopefully Spectre steps up and provides some good Customer Service here.
 
So it went About how i expected Spectre totally ignored me and showed just how terrible their customer service is.

and Jeg's did as i expected and stepped up to fix the issue.
I had faith they would at least offer a full refund after return, but they did better.

They will be sending me the clamps and the hose free of charge !

However they do not carry the 13.5" length of the stainless line so i was given the option of it shipping from Spectre or getting a 4 ft. length of the same hose from Jeg's and know it would ship out Post haste.

The C.S. representative from jegs was concerned that Spectre would drag their feet on this if i was to have it sent from them, So i chose to get the longer length that i will have to trim

I have never tried to cut a braided stainless line but he recomended taping it then cutting it and i think the magnaclamps cover the end pretty well where you wont see it even if i get it kind of rough.
 
Good for Jeg's, boo for Spectre. I wasn't really pleased with Spectre's attitude when I called them before I bought my THOR system. Looks like I was right.
Heck, THOR sent me another decal when I asked because one got folded in the box during shipping.
 
OK so We got a Package from Spectre and better late than never we have the Correct length hose with its nice shiny clamps.

I guess the E-mail made it across the right Persons Desk.

It is a shame i had to make such a big fuss over something like this , it really ruined my experience with Spectre.

I have been so busy with work i haven't installed it yet so no comments on that front.

If anyone orders from them in the future please post up whether or not they sent you the correct hose or if you were at least warned it would be an optional part
 
I ordered the Spectre 9948 Kit for my '01 XJ from Summit. They shipped it out and I received it yesterday (5/10/12) and opened up the box and here's what I got...

... same old cheap rubber hose and NOT the SS hose. I emailed Summit last night and also Spectre this morning We will see how this goes now...

I'm with the previous poster as Spectre should NOTE that the nice SS hose is an OPTION and not show it as a part of the kit included in what you purchase. Will advise my outcome too. Not very happy so far, but we'll see how it turns out.
 
im assuming tha the CARB sticker allows the modification of some of the vacuum lines necassary to run this kit while still being able to pass smog? never dealt with CARB stickers before. i really want to get rid of my airbox
 
You will need to put the CARB sticker on the air cleaner or it will fail the visual portion of the inspection.

And before someone twangs me for being in Colorado and spouting off about California rules and regs... I grew up in California and had the rare privilege of watching the evolution of the emission standards. From nothing to what we have today.

It has been California that has pushed everyone else to reduce emissions. And I, for one, do not miss being behind someone with a worn out engine equipped with a "draft tube".

Watch movies from the 50s. See the fume of white coming out from under the engine? Oil fumes. The ones that are now sucked back into the engine and burned off.

Yup, the crankcase used to be vented directly to atmosphere. By a tube. Pointed down. With a balogna slice on the end. Any blow by was vented out along with normal oil vapors.
