THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hey Ken can I get a pic of your generic 94 Dodge 2500 master cylinder?

I mean, I know it looks like something I would see on rockauto or if I googled for it, but I want to make sure that yours is the correct color.

You're screwed. He put a flame job on it. That's why he didn't post pics.

Seriously wtf

I am tempted to post a pic of the airboost pack from the 5 ton

Or somehow get my balls in the picture

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I can't wait to go home and build big fancy shock hoops for the back of black jeep. Damn 7100's stick pretty far into the cab. Probably gunna build them like Sam did, crossbrace between the two, and some other gusstes to the inner fenderwells. The bumpstops I have are gunna look so gay compared to everything else.

how far up? the top of mine sit level with the back seat....

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I have to remind myself that not all forums know that I can be a bit of a technical asshole.

From an SHO forum regarding my adapter situation:

the torque pulses of the engine will shear the bolts if they are loose - it takes the clamp force of the bolts in tension to hold the flywheel on securely and safely.

so, the fact that your adapter has 3x the number of bolts just means it is 3x more likely to result in a problem - hence a custom flywheel is safer.

My reply:

I know how bolted connections are supposed to work...

So because the SHO motor uses 8 bolts instead of 6 like the Jeep pattern, it's 33% more likely to fail?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

More bolts equals less clamping force? Was that guy dropped on his head as a child?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

His position was that a custom flywheel would be 'safer'.

I asked him to define 'safer', and asked if a straight-through 1-1/4" spacer with way longer flywheel bolts would be a better alternative. For some reason that idea bothers me even more.

I really don't want to get a custom flywheel made...especially since I'd still need to do a spacer anyway.

Shut up Mr. Fag Shock owner. I dunno, I think mine will be about the same, I don't have a back seat anymore to compare to.

this would bother me more also... how long would those bolts have to be? i know you have some crazy calculation for strength but i'm sure that the longer the bolt is, the weaker it is, right? i'd feel safer with two sets of small bolts loctite'd in, hell, if you're crazy toss a tack weld on and grind it flat, than a single set of long ass bolts.

what travel did you get?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

To be fair, I understand what he's getting at, and I'm not uber-thrilled about the solution either.

But torqued & loctited properly I don't think it'd be an issue.

My drive flanges on the front 60 used 8 3/8"-16 bolts on a 4.905" circle. On more than one occasion with my homebrew flanges I had bolts come loose and one or two would shear, but I never had the whole flange fail completely. And that's at the wheel...after all the trans, t-case, and axle gearing, and in a far more shock-intensive location.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Corbeau Baja XP seats are backordered nationally for 6 weeks. Balls.

Tim's sending me a set of Baja Ultra SS seats instead:

and I have a $70 credit towards stuff in the future. Plus he said he moves enough of those that if I keep them in good enough condition, chances are I can exchange them for the XP's when they become available again.

Cool beans.

yup. i think it'll be more than fine *knock on wood*

12" resi full length 7100's out back, probably similar in length to yours id assume. Got any pics of your mounts?

mine are about 12" travel, but the bodies are taller. the only pic i have is shittastic, idk why i keep forgetting to take more pics for my dumb build thread..

Mounts are behind the crossbar obv..

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Why not just wait the 6 weeks for seats?
I'm sure your not going to be ready to go by then anyway....

If I was going to buy seats again, I'd get Twisted Stitch ones like mine. Beard has the customer service of a dried piece of dog dung.

at the minimum they gotta get mocked up/mounted... so even if theres no racing in 6 weeks, which i dont think chris can wait that long to wheel... lol, can always have the mounts ready for the better set.

I'm sure whatever you put together will be strong enough - the only thing I would worry about is balancing it. I guess you can just assume it's balanced, but...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I guess you can just assume it's balanced, but...

how bad could that get though? its a solid chunk of aluminum, which isn't that heavy to begin with, and its not like its some huge diameter piece. thought the last thing you'd want is something badly out of balance bolted to your crank at 8k rpms..
