I'm not gonna get my hopes up just yet, yall know how people are, but all going well I should be selling my truck Mondayish. I've decided that I want a bike (I know yall are probably goin  reading that). They're good on gas, cheap to insure, and will be easy to find storage for when I'm gone. And they're badass lol.
So, I'm looking for some advice from your bike guys on here (Mike?)... which ones are good, which ones should I stay away from, one you've had experience with, etc.
I've been on a couple Harleys and a BMW cruiser, but never a crotch rocket. I definitely don't want a full-on cruiser, but I like the sporty ones.

I REALLY like the Yamaha Midnight Warrior:

But I came across an R6 for sale the other day that I like a lot too, looked just like this one:

streetbikes.....
im partial to honda, but i like what works. hondas have best riding posture on the street and has been #1 600cc (the 600RR) since its debut in '03, its just a very confidence inspiring bike.
the Kawasaki's id get and 03-04 636 but otherwise id stay away. they have a great posture as well, lil extra CC so power is right there with the other guys, bad is they almost always need a manual cam chain tensioner (they can get noisey)
yamahas, i compare yamahas to a wine glass, looks damn pretty and very elegant, and light, but if you drop it, there will be nothing left, good power but sits you on your wrists which is NEVER fun for a long day of riding...
GSXR's are for short people, lol. no really tho, lowest seat height, shortest gap between the bars and seat, and unless you are about 5'8" the seat puts you gery tight on yourself and can feel cramped...

if you even consider more than a 600cc streetbike you are a tool, and deserve any harm that may come to you..maybe, MAYBE 1-2% of riders will ever be able to ride harder than their 600 can perform and therefor can justify a litrebike...

cruisers, acoid the boulevard series (suzuki), the kawis are ok. the VTX like is very well talked of, the 1800C1 in blue is one of my favorite with some vance and hines pipes. and yamaha cruisers are very nice bikes as well
Suzuki does make one bike that is notable, its the M109R, its a 109CID fuel injected cruiser, inverted forks, larger brakes and the fuel injection/mapping is the same as on the busa :D the rear is a 230 from the factory and has rear seat or cowl options, a very fun bike to ride, lots of ass in that throttle.

what you looking for? if available id be more than happy to go look at the bikes with you

You do realize that cold weather is right around the corner?

You do realize that I ship out next month?

If I was gonna be around for the winter, I'd still be looking to replace this truck with another truck. But I leave in 5 weeks... I'll be gone before the really bad weather hits, and a bike will be cheap to buy, insure, and gas up until then, and will be easy to store while I'm gone.

I appreciate the offer Mike, I'll let ya know when I find something.
As for what I'm looking for... I've been looking around, and that Yamaha Warrior is really the only cruiser I like... but I like it A LOT lol (picturing it in flat black with black chrome pipes, now that I have access to a full body shop and all). IIRC it has a 1700cc v-twin.
As for the Hondas... any particular year I should look at?

EDIT: Looks like my link to the Warrior pic in the first post broke... so here's another :D

i will go as far to say that the CBR600RR is THE best streetbike for all around use(commuting, racing, gas milage, and aftermarket)
all the years for the 600RR are great, the best years i think are the 05-06, second generation of the RR and they were awesome, broken in right they make just over 110 at sea level and rev to 15,500, but with a proper map, can safely go a bit higher.
they are undertail exhaust so under rear seat is minimal storage. Nissin brakes, great head tube geometry make it practically fall into the corners. the motor is tilted a bit more forward and is located right under gas tank making the center of the bike the center of weight as well. a -1/+3 gearing from stock makes them a monster, and a yosh RS-5 exhaust and BMC filter really open them up some more. rear reviews, and you will see when the 05-06 model came out, the guys riding all the 600's in the bike shootout said there was nothing as confidence inspiring and easy to ride as the RR.
a GREAT condition, good milage and possibly slightly modded(gears or exhaust) 05-06 RR can be had for 4500 or LESS...

Sounds like a pretty damn good bike. Almost half the cost of a Warrior too.
Alright, time to start searching CL for Yamaha Warriors and Honda CBR600RRs.

Googling CBR600, I'm seeing CBR600RR, CBR600F4, and CBR600F4i... what are the F4s?

F4 ended in 2000, it was carbuerated, and not wirth looking at
the F4i is a good bike from 01-03 but a dinosaur compared to the RR, the f4i's are just good stunt bikes and around towners, not real hot rod kinda bikes ya know...
the 600RR is wha tyou wanna look for, here in the springs, there are like 20 RR's under 4500 right now...

If I was gonna be around for the winter...
Then keep a sharp eye out for wet leaves on the pavement. (Never mind why I say this)

Keep posting, I might get the bug again. :)

I have an even better idea mason..... why don't you wait till your stationed to buy a car/bike? That's the only thing that's really bothering me. Cause 1 you won't be going anywhere, 2 no point in leaving something sit. Just save your money..... if I were about to ship out for the army I would put the 9-10k in the bank not spend it right away.

Agreed  But in the end, it's your money bro.

What is your opinion of the Ducati bikes, they always seem to do well in world superbike. Or do they just have really good riders?

ducati is like Audi, people that like em LOVE them as long as they can afford them.

Duc's are great, vtwin or v-4 motors. the monsters have a cult following and the best bike by far is the Desmosedici-RR. it is their street lagal version of the motogp bike. at a mere 70k+ you can ride like the pros lol...

they are a lot like the apprilla's and MVAgusta's. they are very well made, and are very AMAZING bikes to ride. but they are not meant to be a DD type bike unless you plan on spending a lot of cash on the upkeep (like owning a damn lambo). the 999R is by far the easiest bike to ride on the trac, the 1098, while a killer bike and ridiculously powered, it is scary, and must be perfectly tuned for your weight, height, and riding style before you can even remotely get comfortable on it. when we demo'd it, we had a lot of people do only a few laps and get off and go to something else, it is a very weird bike.
they are knwn for their sound and the dry clutch setup. the only time you see a duc in competition is motogp otherwise the rest of the bikes are not built to racing standards that the Jap bikes are made for the other classes

and yes, i have ridden the duc's, on and off the trac, along with some aprilias and MV's, and some choppers(not on the trac).
after working at Carter powersports in vegas (Jap bikes for on and off road)
i did a lil work for Pat Clark motors. they are THE dealer in vegas for the high end stuff. they sell more bikes than arlen ness sees foot traffic
http://www.patclarkmotorsports.com/
nothing beat using a forklift to snag an unassembled 120k MV out of the back of a truck lol

Yeah... got a couple buddies that have had some nasty encounters with leaves, both wet and dry.
Bug?

You wanna haul my ass to and from work every day and then out to wherever I'm going on the weekends until I ship? Gotta replace the truck with something.
Part of the reason I want a bike is so I'll have a decent amount leftover to put away.

Ya, but were men. We gotta think with our dicks when we can afford it. http://denver.craigslist.org/mcy/1925509177.html

Hahaha yeah...
Thanks for the link  I'll give him a call tomorrow.

Dad used to race Ducatis in his late teens-early twenties. They're great bikes, but I'm not really looking to spend that much on a bike.

So after hangin out in a dive bar in Sedalia all night... I'm kinda leaning towards the Warrior...

Dude that MV is off the chain , straight balls ...

I'll have to agree that Honda makes a more street drivable bike with the performance of a moto GP bike , considering I've owned 4 Hondas and still own two , I'm kind of partial to the brand . The 600rr is one of the best handling , braking , comfortable , reliable bikes you can own for under 12k
new . More moto GP tech savvy engineering than you can shake a stick at .

I would stay away from death bikes until the Army knocks some of that testosterone out of ya'...;) I rode a CB-750 Nighthawk for years before moving
up to the six class . Now that I'm pushing 6'4" @ 210 lbs , I needed the power
and the leg room of a liter class race bike . So now I only ride 1000's .
However I've been riding my whole life , my dad took me to pre-school on the
tank of Yami Venture everyday , so to say I was pretty much born on two wheels wouldn't be far fetched .

I've also hit the pavement a couple times , learning a couple lessons before
purchasing a nasty death machine .

I'll also have to agree with 4aride , the CBR F-4 was one of the best bikes ever built , however the last carb bikes were made in 99' , in 2000 the F-4i
was released ( fuel injected ) . Still a perfect bike all around though .

All this talk of what we like though won't do you any good , whatever you choose should be like a hand gun , something that fits your height , weight
and arm measurements . Don't listen to the hype of anyone bragging about
having the best bike , for how their built , they all have insane power and
the specs are very close between bikes .
