Melting in Texas
This is up for sale locally and I was wondering what's the most common Transmission problem that this could be and the average cost to fix it?
Any clue or advice before I go look would be great.

the v8 zj's have a few common drivetrain problems. there's the np249 tcase which was all time 4wd and has viscous couplers that fail regularly at ~80k mile intervals. the tranny's themselves will explode.. it starts with weak shifts and slipping and progressively worsensuntil total meltdown. and then the motor may be good for 200k if well maintained.

Another thing to look at is the front end somponents, with a BB and some miles it could be in need of tracklbar and tierods. And i'm pretty sure the 96's arent, but make sure its not the Dana 30 with CV axle shafts cause they will probably need replacement too if they're CV style.

as for prices you can check out www.car-part.com and look in your area to see what they run in your neck of the woods.
