It started out as a nice day wheeling today...
First my seat mounts start to go since there's no floor really. That is easily fixed with a ratchet strap from the halfway-to-the-ground seat bracket up to the roof.
Then on the way out, after a nice day of wheeling, one steering box bolt breaks. A little way down the trail the other two go and I have no more steering. We attach three or four ratchet straps to the box to try and hold it. By this time ratchet straps are getting to be in short supply
I drive about 50 yards and the steering kind of works but now I hear this grinding noise in the rear. I find this...
Look at the inside of the wheel...
Anyone else ever see a brake drum like this?
So I pinch the rear brake hose with some vice grips and we get rolling again. I had to be dragged by a tie rod end to keep the jeep even remotely on course. I still rubbed trees and went up banks like my jeep was trying to kill me.
Then the jeep found its way into some ruts where a tire rubbed its bead till it came off.
I was happy when that thing was finally on the trailer. That jeep did really well for the longest time but then today it was like NO MORE! The ironic part is that I had just reinforced the steering box mounts and put new brakes on. Haha, oh well, time for another project. I'm thinking another beater cherokee, but this time I'll leave on the doors and maybe use those half-doors I made awhile ago.
Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years!
