Ok iv had my 2000 chopped for over a month and i still cant decide
if i do the MJ thing or a custom soft top???? Has anybody thought bout using
the truck style back window part off a JK?????? I really havent looked into much but just guessing they have to be close in width?? PROS Vs ConSiratefla

If your talking about making a soft top with a rear window, it's been done. Looks good. But then again, you weren't very specific on which kind of rear window from a JK (hard or soft).

Sorry the back SOFT TOP window piece. Not the top or across the back just the window piece. I know its been done by soft top shops and stuff. But i wanna know how well you think i could match the JKs piece with my xj. Im sure its not way easy but just thought it was one step in the right direction

You cannot beat a custom top.

A pre-made top MAY cover up most of the hole...but it will not fit right.

Well i thought about doin a frame around the outside and doin clamps within the frame so it looked clean and the soft top was really tight. That way i didnt have to worry about buttons on the outside. Also Rev iv looked at alot of your pics but i cant find ones that show your top that well seems like its always hidden haha. PICS PICS PLEASE. Oh and if i was to do a custom top it would have to be with the top frames like best tops soft top for trucks. Sum it up..... cherokee look, just the back was a soft top

Personally, I never gave a crap about what anyone else thought about a modification I was considering, I just figured out what I wanted and if it would work.

I guess if you want a response...........yeah, sounds lame to me.

X2. Who cares what others think, if it doesnt impress them, but it does you, than that is what matters.

Take it to a canvas or boat shop, and see if they can make you a cover for the back.

And Goatman if you didnt have such a kick ass rig that has inspired us all......... i luv the xj. Did you use alot of body filler on yours from your pics looks like you havent had any problems at all. UPDATE Im goin to pick up my MJ piece next week. Now i have cut the hatch in half and ready to sheet metal the inside. Any Hinge ideas....ones that have worked for U?????

I dropped my 4x4 mag subscriptions because they're full of TJ's and JK's. (wish we had a flip off smiley)


Yeah, mine has quite a bit of bondo. It's cracked at the bottom where the MJ cab meets the XJ sheetmetal. No bondo has fallen out, it just has a crack along that line. I do have some cracks in the bondo on one side where I smacked it against a rock, but you can't really count that.

But, I've wheeled the dog shit out of the poor rig since the conversion, so I think it's held up pretty well.

Ya iv seen the pics. looks like youve taken it on every good trail out there. Hmmm maybe ill spend some time with the sheetmetal, or maybe a macco paintjob will do tell i get the bugs worked out. OK your right with the mags. My favs are the lifted long bed diesles out posing on hills.:twak:
