anyone know the differences? outputs or inputs? or is one clocked slightly different, both 98's Thanks

I'm pretty sure they are all the same inside and out when you compare a 231 XJ to a 231 TJ. Only caveat is if your XJ has the 242 which would then be different.

If they both have the NP231 then they are identical and if the XJ has the NP242 the swap is fairly straight forward. There is alot of info on here on how to convert from a NP242 to NP231.

Yeah my son is working on a friends 98 TJ with a 242 (obviously not factory) and the friend wants to put a 231 in. around here the TJ case costs 250 bucks, but you can get XJ cases for 50 so we are trying to figure the differences out.

There is no differences in the t-case(s),the "clocking" is done with the transmission adapter.

4cyl tjs have 21 spline t cases
