XJ top speed

100 [+/- some i'm shure] in a 2000 with 3", 31's, 3.55, and no speedo gear change. for about 30 min [and i wonder why my cheepo muffler blew out] folowing a kid in a lumna. didn't seem scary at all. the only bad handling trate, was that any dip in the road about threw you threw the roof.

I did 120 in mine (according to my buddies GPS) for a short distance while driving across the desert in New Mexico. I slowed down though since its not made to go that fast and my tires arent rated that high either. It felt like a lot faster than 120, it was kinda scary to tell you the truth.

I did 105 for a hour and a half with my jeep loaded and towing a trailer with my quad in it coming back from the dunes in CA. My freind crashed pretty bad and his throat was closing up on him. The Yuma hospital is just crazy come dune season and he wanted to go to the hospital in Phoenix. That was with a 5.5" lift, 32's and NO swaybar.

anyone who takes an xj stock let alone lifted over 100 is a lunitic.myself included.Yall got a death wish.?Thats what Camaros are for . Im not criticizing you but its just not safe, for you or the other people on the road. :piratefla

Totally agree! Thats the only time it's been over a 100. But my best freinds throat was closing up and he could barely breathe so I said fawk it.

Alright i know it makes me a lunatic and it's dangerours but where i'm at we have a road heading to the river that is designated quarter mile and so forth in one section. I had two friends...one with a chevelle, and the other with a corvette. The ran behind me the whole way i went down this road. Mind you i have a 91 xj 4 door HO 4.0 with auto tranny and said i was doing 130mph without the pedal to the floor yet. We were on cell phones and at the time i was doin 130 my rpms read about 3100. i am pretty impressed by the performance of it, but it aint something i do everyday seens how i have 266k+ miles on the engine. So i'm sure some yalls cherokee's can handle those speeds as well. and as far as the speedometer goes it was well past the vertical point.

I was in the middle of the desert on a totally flat, straight stretch of road and I hadn't seen another car in many miles. The was no danger to anyone but ourselves. Also, we only went that fast for a minute--curiousity got the best of us. It would have gone faster but theres no way I would have done it--that was scary enough. Mine has a stock suspension with Bilstein shocks on it, I couldn't imagine doing it in a lifted XJ.

They're all governed to about 116mph though 4.0 automatic versions are drag-limited to about 112mph.

Recently in my '96 auto I got a chance to go on a closed highway that they're working on in the middle of nowhere. Perfectly straight and flat. (the guys surveying it told me it only rises about 10' in 1 mile) I got up to 115.2 on my GPS, and was still accelerating, but I ran out of road. :D This was with 2 people and a week's worth of camping gear in the back...

I haven't been brave enought to go that fast in my xj, I've only been around 90-95(my speedo goes to 85) and it was pretty wobbly then, so I wasn't about to go further. Although the gas wasn't anywhere near to the floor....

I got mine up to about 110 and it felt solid as a rock, a little loud yes but it "felt" stable. Would I do it again? Probably not without a darn good reason.

in the hills near mt shasta CA, i hit around 110 mph...as soon as the CHP spotted me (or actually i him) i realised i was going that fast... the xj sees speeds of 90 mph every morning on the way to work... it just runs so much smoother at 70 on up that i hate to drive it any slower. as for those with claims of taking people off the light...V8's and the like...get off the glass pipe cuz the crack is destroyin' yer brains!
