Hey, I have a automatic Xj and the transmission is going to have to be replaced soon and wondering if I could add a standard transmission instead of another automatic one, and how would I do that that if its possible.
did you have to fool it with resistors or anything?I have an auto ECU in my manual 98 and it runs fine.

my mustang needed something in the shift selenoid circuit so it wouldnt throw a CEL.
when i converted my mustang, i wired the park neutral switch circuit into the clutch safety switch. worked great, i assume it would for the xj as well. You have to take one of these (http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&hl=en&biw=1360&bih=677&tbm=isch&tbnid=-K1SEJYV663WBM:&imgrefurl=http://www.aapexonline.com/wire-terminals/male-female-disconnectors/18-22-awg-push-on-female-spade-crimp-terminal.html&docid=sUGrxsjRA1zQCM&imgurl=http://www.aapexonline.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/320x400/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/r/f/rf250.jpg&w=320&h=400&ei=OIesT6eGDIrA0AG4raSwBA&zoom=1&iact=hc&dur=91&sig=101376225387646403905&page=1&tbnh=153&tbnw=121&start=0&ndsp=19&ved=1t:429,r:6,s:0,i:86&tx=110&ty=118&vpx=180&vpy=179&hovh=251&hovw=201)
and jump two pins on one of the connectors under the hood to make the computer think that the auto tranny is in park/neutral otherwise it wont crank over.
You also have to transfer over the master and slave cylinder for the clutch pedal. You have to take a hole saw or big step drill and actually drill the holes in your firewall for the clutch master cylinder. I HIGHLY!!!! recommend getting a external vs internal slave cylinder style bellhousing. I've had both, and the internal blows! You might have issues with your transmission mount and the transmission crossmember mount and how it bolts to the frame. I kinda did a custom thing with mine.
I can do it for you, I have a large collection of calibration files to pull from and a benchtop programmer that allows me to change part numbers.
Can you pm me all the steps for the 99 5 speed swap from aw4 to trick computer and so forthIf your running a stock 97-99 or 00-01 xj you need... ecm, clutch hydraulics, metal plate that sits behind flywheel, flywheel/clutch assembly, pilot bushing and bearing, trans with clutch fork, crossmember, both driveshafts, 4x4 linkage and brackets, there is a plate that sits on the tranny tunnel for the shifter, upper and lower shift boot, pedal assembly... I have 5speed swapped a 99 xj and sold swap kits to several friends and own a 2000 xj that was swapped, with simple wiring you can get your reverse lights to work and trick the Jeep to the the nss is still there oh and unplug the tcm if more details needed pm me
