guess its a special order fleet truck, but I though the black flares weren't even an option after 98, and every single 2000-2001 ive seen had a colored keyed grille.

not really familiar with steel wheels, but i dont think ive ever seen a 2000 with those steel wheels either.

the rear 4.0L sticker, build spec sticker and all black interior suggest that this really is a 2000. Sticker even says it was made late in the 2000 model year.

also seems a little weird that this is has to be the most basic model available (pretty sure carpet and 6 banger were standard at that point) but it has a factory roof rack!

i've never seen those wheels on anything but a renix XJ/MJ! And, that thing is filthy - inside AND out. An XJ in that shape here in SoCal would be lucky to hit $2k.

what gave you the idea it was a fleet vehicle? perhaps the a-pillar light?

yes, i would say a bare bones gov fleet vehicle. they were able to get away with other options or option delets that was not available to the civilian marketplace

Those wheels are common on fleet vehicles, not just Renix.

Looks like a bare bones SE package to me, very popular with gov't and fleet.. Same trim package as my '01. Mine's got black flares, black grill, same steel wheels, and no power locks or windows.. I do have A/C, tilt, and cruise, to go with my 5 speed though, lol.

Police package I'm guessing. Or a public utility company vehicle. The dash has holes for radio mic and a night light. Those wheels were still offered on the fleet models.

It'd have to be cheap...... looks well used for only 85K miles......

the police package had a vinyl floor and a high idle switch. didn't even notice the A pillar light though. Also, super weird that it has a rear wiper.

Side note: of jeep offered the a pillar light, vinyl floor, high idol switch to civilians, I bet it would have sold well.

whatever the case, that is a strange cherokee for being such a late production model, you would think at that point chrysler would just be streamlining production to the basics.

Not strange at all, there are plenty of vehicles like that running around. I've seen tons of them, and even owned one of them. Rich P is right, it is just an SE package.

My old '99 that was a government vehicle. It had those steel wheels, manual doors and windows, but it had full skid package and tranny cooler.

Sure, there was a police package, but even at that, the fleet orders could be modified. Not ALL police package XJ's have the high idle switch and pilar light. Some police agencies didn't even order police package XJ's and just went with the base SE rigs. My buddy works for the City of Denver and their XJ fleet had varying options on their SE models. Mostly used for City services vehicles, and some right hand drive XJ's for meter/parking enforcement.

The county I work for never did use the XJ for police cars, but they did order a bunch of 'em for their code enforcement/inspection divisions, and Child Protective Services. Some have full skids, tow hooks, high idle switches and pillar lights, some have fewer options........ Jeep had to have made some to have ready to sell prior to having a fleet order because I can't imagine why CPS would need an XJ with a pilar light and high idle switch.....

man im loving all this OEM info, really interesting stuff.

wow that 2001 looks exactly like the lower trim level 97/98s ive seen. yup my 97 also had those wheels and others ive looked at have had them also.

its the April 1997 SE model according to the vin. came with tcase skid, front skid, gastank skid, tranny cooler, full power, cruise, no roof rails at all, and basic interior (only one dome light, no foot area lights, tape radio)

your 99 looks exactly like mine did. bare bones SE package.

too bad it's not shift on the column, I always wished my XJ had that fleet option. More room for radios :D

yeah you understand why its wierd, just never seen a 2000+ with that trim, though it was interesting.

Thats very interesting that some base cherokees only had one interior light!

I would love the column shift, especially for shifting to 3rd gear while going up steep grades. Love shifting my dads 59 chevy 1/2 ton with "three on the tree".
