WTF have they done to halloween?

So my wife found out by accident today while shopping for candy and some last minute decorations for wednesday that Kenosha only allows trick or treating on the sunday preceding halloween and only from 4-6pm.

She hurried back got the girls in costumes and only found 4-5 houses in a 4 block radius that participated.

What kind of chickenshit public policy is that?

Guess I was spoiled growing up in Chicago where kids, teens and adults roam the streets causing mischief on the 31st from dusk till waaaaay late in the night.

What a bunch of pansies!

Guess I'll be driving into Chi-town on Wednesday...

Gil, you'll probably run into the same BS in the Burbs of Chicago. Here is a list of some IL cities and their Trick or Treat times: http://www.hauntedillinois.com/trickortreatinghours.php

Couple over-protective parents, paranoid public officials, and Lawyers and you get a more restrictive version of just about anything to do with kids. Gone is the traditional trick or treat where you went around at night and pumpkin remains were gound on the street and t-paper hung from trees at dawn. Now, the kids come around during the day and heaven knows what day or time because all the parents and schools decide this stuff off the books.

Some of the local parents got together last weekend and put on a Halloween party for their kids, so I doubt we'll even have any kids come around on Halloween.

yeah they took all the fun out of being a kid on haloween. in Laporte it was last night from 5-7

ya they some parents tried to make it sunday in my town. it didnt pass thank goodness. then some lady writes in to the paper in the shout out section calling them idiots basically because they are risking childrens lives...
whatever, halloween is on the 31st not some other day.

I can see having a curfew in today's streets but what purpose does having it on another day serve?? Is Sunday any less dangerous on the streets than a Wednesday.

Pussy-ass, chicken sh*t lawyers. Shakespere had it right... 'Kill All The Lawyers."

hey Rob,
i think the purpose is to set the times earlier like 3-6pm since it gets dark at 6:00 now.
we have 5-8pm out by us.
so that way its light out, cars can see the kids easier. dont have to worry as much about kidnapping,etc..

We took my daughter tonight, we went through here candy when we got home. Had 4 small candy bars with business cards taped to them. 2 for Insurance agents 1 for a bank and 1 for a guy running for local office. Kinda pissed me off.

I am in the western burbs and we had a 3-7 rule. We did see one group of kids at 8:15, scofflaws. The last 5 years or so the amount of kids coming has dwindled. This year we had 32 from that 3-8:15 timespan. That was up from a low 20-average. It is kind of a shame that things have gotten overly protective like that as I am sure that is a small part of the reason why the attendance has dwindled. But now kids have all sorts of Halloween parties available to them and the actual door-to-door seems to be losing out. Which is a shame as I remember going around to my immediate neighbors and they always had a special package for that good little rascal that lived down the street (me).

Oh well.

We drove down to Chicago and trick or treated till 9pm.

Kids everywhere!

Houses done up real real nice. (Old Irving)

We might have to move back someday!

better than the sex offender around here that handed out candy with instructions for children to meet him.

I used to live in Old Irving Park! Liked that area alot. Instead of the good ole days of parents actually watching their kids during trick or treating, they would let them run around the neighborhood without adult supervision. Then those pederasses would come out and all political hell would break loose.

yesterday trick-or-treating started at 5:30 here, the first kid came to my door and the sun was shining, i mean i can see like little kids (2-3) showing up while its still light out, but a 12 year old kid, come on, wait till like 9:00 like i did when i still went trick-or-treating, they took all the fun out of Halloween
