I need a speedo gear sending unit for a 91/92, if anyone's got one sitting around.

Can't find one for purchase anywhere online. Lemme know if you've got one.

Thanks!

You mean one of these?

I had a hard time finding one for my 92 XJ and I did some online research. I found out that the part that I needed was the same as a Dodge D20 pickup.

It's a 2 pin reed switch sender he needs - the later ones are 3 pin.

Cal, do you need the sender itself, the part that goes into the tcase, or what? The sender itself (at least on mine) is a smaller part that screws on via a captured nut, the part that goes into the tcase is exactly the same as the older RENIX speedo cable takeoff.

It's likely that you can make a later 3 wire work (with a short shaft speedo gear) by doing a little wiring, I am trying it soonish on my MJ if you run out of options and end up looking at swapping a 3 wire sender.

I need everything. If its the same as renix, I can find a renix gear drive assembly easy. The electronics are available online for $19.

Thanks! That was enough info to get me going I think.

I am 99.99% sure it is - I unscrewed my sender from the gear drive assembly by accident when trying to clock the speedo gear after reassembling my transfer case and said "damn that looks exactly like the one I just put in an 87 YJ!"

I will check the parts catalog later to confirm but basically I'd put money on it being exactly the same gear drive housing. It explains perfectly why the 91/92 senders require a long shaft gear just like a RENIX XJ.

Just checked...
87-90 speedo takeoff J321 2893 (YJ, XJ, MJ, not sure if it also fits SJs)
91-92 speedo takeoff 2538 608, (all models except 92 YJ) - this part supersedes J321 2893, i.e. order a J321 2893 at the dealer and you'll get one of these, they should be compatible.
92 YJ speedo takeoff 5600 6550 (probably designed to be compatible with the YJ speed sender change in 92, apparently YJs went 2 to 3 pin VSS from 91-92)
93 speedo takeoff 5206 8367 (all models)

sender part number 5233 602 (92) or 5234 422 (93) both for ZJs
5252 438 for XJs/MJs
5233 152 2 pin 90-91 for YJs
5234 422 3 pin for 92 YJs and all 93s

No, I don't know why it's this complicated. This is probably more info than you wanted, but I'm looking at the catalog now so I'm going to post it all in case someone else ends up needing it.

So basically, yeah, if you can get the 2 pin speedo sender itself locally for cheap, pick up a RENIX speedo takeoff and slap it on there and you are all set.
